Has anyone scoped the Old Lismore Quarry? ( 2847'34.50"S 15315'45.80"E ). I'm trying to buy a house nearby and am stoked to find that there is something to climb within a short hike. Anyone?

I grew up in Lismore, there really is very little to climb there.

Mulchy has low standards he'll be sweet with a quarry.

Yep and he''ll produce trip reports that read like Touching the Void.

Wouldn't living in Lismore be more The Unbearable Lightness of Being?

I suffered 4 years in Lismore and spent a bit of time at the quarry. Not bad for a few hours here and there, heat generally being the issue. Some nice 10m cracks in the old basalt columns and evidence of climbers poking around there over the years. Other options within a 2 hour drive are quite good, eg Girraween, Maroon, Mt Warning. Also a dense sport cliff developed near Uki on Mt Doughboy and some obscure stuff here and there. My tip would be to leave a barrel of kit under Mt Warning and get the approach dialled so you can get in for day trips.

Good one bradc, there's also Cabaritta Beach for the climb/surf combo. I've seen other old quarries around Lismore and the rock is very blocky basalt with lots of cracks. The Old Lismore Quarry sounds good for training and getting the kids onto some rock. I used to have lots of fun bashing in pitons old school style with Iceman at the old Canberra quarry. I'll just have to wait and see - the trip report for WW is going to have to be mandatory now - hopefully with WWW when he comes up for a Cajun river monster fishing weekend - I can hear the banjos and smell the incense already...
