Fair enough call ODH. I like slabs, smearing, tiny edges etc but not much granite experience. The crux of the orignal question though is to find out if there is anything remotely worthwhile doing or even thinking about.

There'll definitely be worthwhile stuff for you to do in Yosemite, and every day you spend at Booroomba prior to your trip will allow you to perform a little less suckfully over there :)
