Thanks Stu,

Downloaded the App and installed on my iPhone and iPod Touch. Haven't yet been able to get it to work on an old iPad #1. Perhaps I have to update the hardware? ;-)

Hyuge thanks to all contributors who submitted content to SunSurfSandstone/sydneyclimbing.com over the years and helped make it happen.

Nice work stu, great to see the junkyard in there. How do we go about updates as a couple more routes were put up and freed on the weekend.
I have to wait till I get home to download it, dang 3G download limit :(

For the moment you just add the updates to the website and i will periodically release updates via the app store. A more seamless way of doing updates is possible. But at least what we have now is easier to update than the printed guide.

Does this mean we can look forward to "Sydney Climbing Guide - Volume 2 (North of the Harbour)" soon? :)

Yeah I reckon I've got most of the north shore stuff in a form I am happy with. Will spin off a trial copy sometime this week. Wanna do some proof reading?

Android: Eventually yes, but lets see how the iPhoney version goes first.

Don't worry, Matt doesnt put up too many routes for the mortals out there! 99% of us won't need an update!

Mate it's rated 12+:

Rated 12+ for the following:

Infrequent/Mild Alcohol, Tobacco, or Drug Use or References
Infrequent/Mild Mature/Suggestive Themes
Infrequent/Mild Profanity or Crude Humor

As a professional censor I reckon that's a bit harsh.

I mean, it's not the Nowra guide... :-)

How many kiddies under twelve are going to want to buy the app anyway? Ashima can get obe to buy it for her.

Most of the crude route name humour is so obscure its probably missed by most bumblies

Like the kid who told me my hairline looked like a McDonalds sign.

Just another reason to hate the young.

Hey, Stu - how's it selling? Is the app thing a happenin thing?

Sold about 70 copies so far. Compared to the printed Sutherland book it moves a bit easier. I haven't done much promoting other than here on Chockstone and a few lines on the website. I think if I put ads up at the various gyms it would get a bit more action. Was waiting for a bit of feedback on usability & usefulness first. (I certainly don't bother carrying around a printed guide anymore, it does everything I need!)

Number of climbers who frequent the Sydney crags? Dunno
Number who have iPhones? Maybe a third?
Number who are happy with their old manky printed Sun Surf Sandstone guides? Some.

I can think of 100 ways to improve it, but effort expended versus benefit? Probably that energy would be better spent on the website, i.e. make it more interactive and web 2.0 like.

However, I am thinking of producing a cross-platform iPhone/iPad/Android guide to Nowra. Would people be interested in one?

I have no idea how many copies Bytespark sold of his app (which was a dump of the SSS data circa 2008). It's a little annoying it pops up in the google search above my app, but its a free market I guess.
