Okay finally the Point is open again..... Funny how it just happened to be the weekend of International lighthouse week!!!!
But i was also told by the rangers that a few climbers over the weekend were using the new fence as anchors and have been asked to spread the word that it is NOT to happen...
Also if we climb at Bayside not to walk on the blackened bush areas....ie just stick to the rocks and all will be good..
Have fun out there everyone and Grey Mist is so much better now its bolted!

Thanx rick for all of your following up.
Is the fence in roughly in the same place as the old one?
How do we get over/around it now?
Cheers.

I was there this weekend too - just got lucky that it opened on Thursday. Fence is in roughly the same place. Don't jump over it, when you reach the lighthouse complex from the parking lot, walk along the right hand side or left hand side of the fence to get to the clifftop. As per the new guide, consider yourself an "authorised person" for this exercise...

The renovation of the lighthouse was a good one - its looking great, and worth having a look inside at some of the historical displays etc. Talked to one of the guys who restored it, and they are pushing to have the original light reinstated as the main light, and the current solar-powered light (the skinny tower) dismantled.

Seems like the Grey Mist comment slipped under a lot of peoples radar.

What about those of us that work weekends - can we climb there on weekdays yet?

The first time I rang the rangers and asked this, I was treated with astonishment, and was asked to repeat the question (after having it answered). 2nd time (a year later) it was like a party in the background, complete with music and much laughter.

Its OK, apperntly the bolts are inside the crack so it still looks like you are leading it on gear in your photos

Just need to buy one of those fancy drills with a 90degree chuck and telescoping drill bits :)

also, thanks Rick for doing all the liaising with the navy folk. Good to have someone local looking after climber interests.
