I recall reading about some climbing in Lerderderg gorge (maybe in argus) though can't find any details. Has anyone been there and have any info re access (distance from mackenzies flat) suggested rack, fun-ness etc...

I'm so sick of these posts asking about climbing on the most obscure choss piles. Stop piddling around on shi*t and get fit, strong, and mentally capable, less time poor, make less excuses - whatever and climb something worthwhile. Bucket ticklist suggestions anyone?

Don't take it personally, I'm just sick to death...

Choss is the sh1t! Nothing better than taking holds home to remind you how AWESOME the climbing was!!

In related news, I appear to be taking a leaf from wws' book and posting while drunk. Miguel75 - how do you handle this situation?

Well, firstly I'd give a blood-curdling war cry followed by a swift judo chop to the Adams apple;) if the PS3 was turned off I'd probably just hide and pretend whomever said it was jealous! See, I'm blessed with plenty of time to climb and to live within an hour of Melbourne's very own mega crags; Mt Alex, You Yangs, Werribee Gorge, Staughton Vale, Melton Creek & Camels Hump. Given I'm spoilt for choice I thought I'd venture further afield, because 'adventure is out there!'

If I wanted to climb a starred classic I'd TR SPQR at WG;)

No offense taken, I think you raise a valid point for someone who wants to climb better, at better places. Me, I like to climb and look at climbing like pasta: I believe there's no such thing as bad pasta, unless it has chunks of tomato in it, then it's bad until I pick the tomatoes out, then it becomes good again;) anyway I've lost my point...

Found it! I'm just as happy hiking into some obscure place and enjoying the solitude, climbing, adventure and my own company, as I am at Araps... but that's just me..

And I'd be stoked for a bucket list; trad to about 18...

Overcooked pasta is always bad - tomato or sans tomato...

Go check it out. So many do not grasp the rewards of going somewhere new even if it is shit.

Dad gum it dalai! You've poked a hole in my otherwise flawless philosophy...

How 'bout substituting apple pie for pasta? It's better sans tomato;)

EDIT: thanks Dan, you're a good man.

You need to catch up with ODH and have a good whine to each other about how all these crags that enthusiastic people want to climb are no stars compared to Taipan / Ceuse / Yosemite.

So are you saying every crag has been found? And if not it would be choss? Lol.

Pasta, apple pie and choss aside, any beta on Lerderderg?

Why is it that most every thread I'm involved in goes way off topic;)

Climbing unfortunately not. Did bushwalk through there as a kid and recall jumping off outcrops into one of the deeper walterholes...

It is a pretty little river gorge close to Melbourne. So if nothing else will be an enjoyable walk.

20 odd years back I walked in the back way and didn't see any crags at all. But if you think of what's on the other side of the hwy I think it is worth a look. (Maybe a nearmap or google map look first).
There is gold in them yonder hills!

I wouldn't stress too much over it as I reckon Stugang SickToDeath has compared notes with ODH already...

No climbing info but had the fuel syphoned out of my car the only time I went there. Such
fond memories.

Like Araps in winter, just do it!
Distance? About 3 nanoseconds for me, but if you are relying on a gps I am sure you will work it out in your own time.
Rack? You shouldn't need much but I don't know if you bounce back like me after a fall.
Fun-ness? Funny as the time I found Batman climbing his rope instead of the wall!
etc? sick2neerlyded may post more information for you before he expires?

Just about every good crag, yes!

Look, how stupid do you think previous generations of climbers were? You reckon the guys developing shitholes like the You Yangs and Werribee actually believed they were onto good crags? They were cleaning up scraps, after having obsessively scoured the countryside and failing to find better rock

It's only though some combination of naivety and stupidity that you think you're going to waltz around in the bush on a daytrip from melbourne, and happen upon "the next arapiles"

Step 1) Cut out the bullcrap with "I only climb trad". Good sport routes are better than shit trad routes, so leave room on your bucket list for good routes with bolts.

Step 2) Ease back on the aid training and get stronger for rock climbing............most of the proper balltearing routes in Australia are harder than 18.

Step 3) Wait till Simey publishes his full colour, coffee table/guidebook to the best routes in the country......it's a bucket list on a platter*
