Narrowneck Bouldering "Alterations"

There's a little bouldering area near the pumping station at Narrowneck with an easy traverse and some harder stuff under "Codeine Kid" and "LSD". The easy traverse is a nice warm up and good practice for beginner climbers.

In the last few weeks, someone has started bashing rocks into the larger holds on the easy traverse so they're unusable - presumably a climber, 'cause they were put back in after I took them all out.

I'm all for filling in chipped holds, but as far I know, these aren't chipped - or if they were, it must have been 15-20 years ago or more. More likely, they were created when the whole traverse was "chipped" out of the cliff to make way for the road. So I don't see the point of this - if anyone finds the well-established traverse too easy, why not just avoid the big holds?

If you're doing this, can you post or PM me to explain what you're up to - otherwise we're both going to waste a lot of time - you filling in the holds and me diggin them out again!

Cheers, Dale

Dont think it was climbers restoring the balance of nature. The pockets not the only hold that got tampered. there were natural holds to the right of the start of lsd that were smashed off with a rock or similar. I noticed smashed bottles in surrounds and make shift fire place. unfortunately this place is easy access for drunk idiots "enjoying" nature. Glad someone else noticed the destruction. thought poeple didnt like the bouldering there.

Someone has started bashing rocks into the mid to large size pockets on the narrowneck bouldering area above the pumping house again. While it might not be climbers it seems a bit suss - this is the 7th or 8th time I've come across this, and its always a line of holds bashed full of rocks that follow all along the traverse. I can't see why non-climbers would be so fascinated with this activity that they would keep coming back to it...

If it is a climber doing this, could you please stop? At the risk of stating the obvious, if you don't want to use the larger holds you can just ignore them and leave for others who do.

I was there about 2 weeks ago and didn't notice this. I don't see why any climber would do it?

It happened repeatedly a couple of years ago, and I just found it again yesterday. Looks to me like blocking up the easier holds to make the traverse harder. Again, may not be climbers, but I can't think of anyone else who might do this? It looks a reasonably time consuming job to find rocks the right size to bash into each of the pockets (it's certainly a bit of work getting them back out as they are tight fitting). And I've only found the holds filled in on the two climbing traverses (the warm up under the big roof and the traverse / sit start problems around LSD etc.)
