The weather is looking shocking this long weekend. I might have to head for the big weather proof caves. Does anyone have any idea if the Goat Track is shut yet?

Not that I've done this, but if you have a 4x4 and don't mind pushing it a little you can go around just to the left of the gate, never done it myself, but I know people who have ........

Closes on Queens Birthday from memory.
There was a time when you could simply lift the gate off its hinges. Not a good idea though. The
track gets seriously muddy over winter - which is the reason they close it - but more importantly
it'd be pretty bad for climber/ranger relations if people were to start doing that sort of thing. The
walk up there isn't too bad, particularly if you're only carrying draws.

different road but same reasons for closure: the gate just past the bundaleer carpark is locked until 31 Oct.

1 November it re-opens.
You can get a Datsun 120Y up the Goat Track, humps or no humps. It's a fairly
steep climb though, and the soil is quite clay-ey. I imagine it's closed to limit
the damage that vehicles do to the track, and also, to minimise the number
of vehicles that get stuck in the mud.
In good weather it's really no better or worse than the majority of 2wd accessible
tracks in the Grampians, now that the humps have worn down a little.
