Hi All.

I was out at Black Hill yesterday with Steven W., partially so he could work his project Maximillian Lionheart (to the right of Pull the Ripcord), listed in the new book as "an almost completed project".

There was a bit of gear left at the bottom and he noticed some chalked holds he doesn't usually use, suggesting people have been giving the climb a shot.

Without wishing to wade into a debate on what the statute of limitations is for exclusive rights to a project, I'd just like to note that he has not yet sent it and that it would be the nice 'n neighborly thing to do to give him the space to do so.

I'm sure when he gets it he'll cheerfully advertise the fact that it is open season for the climb (& remove the tag).

Cheers,

Ben

I'm not taking the mickey with this question, but what is the standard timeframe before a project becomes an open project?

IMHO if a person is actively working a route every few months then it should be closed until climbed. If a route is abandoned for a year or more then it should be fair game for anyone to try it.

I've always (tried) to give 3 years, in a place that's a bit season specific you have time to try one year, get injured the next then get up it the third.

I was hoping no one would bring that up, but my elbows have stopped falling off and the temps are good. I'll get out there when this experiment finishes in 2 weeks. one move between me and success (but I'll probably find the rest of the pitch hard this time).
How are you? joined the mountains wind mafia I hear.

At last I have finally got my butt up Maximillian Lionheart. It would be great to get some feedback on it. Have a go and let me know if the grade is on the mark or over graded.

Really? Not sure I believe it'll ever go. Got yourself a reliable witness?

Fortunately yes. It wouldn't surprise me that you missed it given that it was your 2yo letting me know that i was on belay

If your best witness is the two year old most recently seen running up and down the hallway here chanting "Prawn Star! Prawn Star!" as her overwrought parents tried to herd her into bed, then I think the credibility of the whole climb is on pretty shaky grounds! Care to comment on why she's chanting that, by the way?

But we digress from the theme of the thread. Congrats to Steven on nailing the climb, I look forward to seeing others flounder on it when I'm in the area pursuing more modest goals.
