I'm thinking about doing a driving holiday from Sydney to Lake Eyre (South Aus) and back - is there ANY climbing between these two places (Broken Hill?). I can do a sidetrip to Moonarie I guess - but otherwise once I get past the Bluies - ???

I think there is some around broken hill. Some nice rock out there but a lot of it is protected i believe. Think I saw a border ranges climbing club mention in some info sheets when we were out there.

That's on the list - but it's some sort of sacred land isn't it? According to google you need a tour guide to be allowed in much of the park. Are the cliffs high enough for roped trad climbing? - or just bouldering?

Fontaindubb?
About 25 k's south of Dubbo near the Newell Highway there are lots of granite boulders. Some are quite OK, and there is a fair bit of potential for exploring and finding new stuff.
I can put you in contact with Heath if you like, who seems to hold the unfortunate position as the only climber in Dubbo.

Anyone know of where I can get a Moonarie guide in Sydney?

Muttawinji NP is great. Most of the park is accessed without a guide. you only need a guide for certain sacred areas. The gorges have some nice looking rock in them, I imagine climbing on these would not be looked upon to well but the rock is really hard quartzite(i think?)

The bouldering is on Billygoat hill, as a kid I spent summer holidays with my grandparents terrorizing the neighborhood.
Head up to the Japanese gardens and turn right towards the comms tower.
Boulders are every where up to 3 or 4 metres high.

Neil, go and check out Nangar NP, near Eugowra. It's not that much of a detour.
Mikl has climbed out there and so has M9. Do a search on this site. There is some stuff here about it. I think Mikl posted a sweet looking photo on CragX as well.
Take you drill.

mootwinge gorge probably 50 m but a couple of km walk in . closed area is low angled slabs with rock carvings. IF going through Broken hill you get to Yunta head north , wilpena then go up the east side of the Flinders towards Blinman Huge amounts of rock continue up to Chambers gorge a couple of km long with a flat pebbly 50m wide bottom cliff 100 m high? nearly 30 years ago since i was there . further up is Gammons and Arkaroola and the road to Leigh Creek . there is probably as much rock there as in the grampians though access and quality the sticking points. I met somebody who worked as a liason with Fred Hollows in remote nsw and sa aboringinal communities and he described being dragged everywhere by fred to belay him up cliffs (from his descriptions fred spent more time climbing than eye work which I doubt ).spend you time in the flinders rather than around central nsw.It is a long drive to sa so spend your time there only danger is very high rainfall willclose a lot of the roads for afew days

This might be a little out of your way, but Mt Wudinna in S.A. is one of Australia's largest granite monoliths

I might wait until I'm in a wheel chair before attempting that slab.
