If there's any ACT climbers on the list...just how cold is Booroomba in winter? I'll be down at Canberra for a weekend in mid Aug and have been trying to convince some mates into heading out to Booroomba, but they all say that it will be too cold...though none of them have ever climbed there in winter(!) Bunch of wusses. It's north facing right? There's gotta be at least some climbs out of the way of southerlies/westerlies??
Any advice appreciated.

Hey Andrew,
most of booroomba if facing north and gets sun (except for parts of the southern bits). I've spent some time there in winter and it can be great when the suns out. i remember a few years back when our car broke down in the car park, so we went climbing for the next three days before anyone turned up to give us a hand (not that we cared). The mornings were cold though it warmed up nicely. If it gets wind though, it might be pretty uncomfortable, bring the windstopper and stuff and hope for good weather.

Hey Andrew
The other day I went up there - snow/ice on the walk in, then stood on the top in full sun. Being at about 1200-1300m the sun has a nice warm intensity to it. We climbed the northern slabs in long-sleeved T shirt and thin pants. Even hot in places! Just pick a nice still sunny day and be aware that the weather in canberra can be way better than the weather up in the hills. Southern Buttress and parts of the North Buttress can be shaded and very cold, so go the slabs!

Thanks guys. Definitely sounds worth it unless the weather is totally crap. I'll try to convince them to put away their handbags and go climbing.
