When it gets too easy, change to terrible footwear so that you really have to work your toes. I used clapped-out dunlop volleys with laces undone; you have to re-work sections until you can do them in control without your feet skating.

Yes. Yarra Boulevard between Swan and Bridge rd.

Various eliminates and suggested route grades listed in the Melbourne guide section here on chockstone.

Yeah seen guys climbing down there for the last 20 odd years. When i go down there i just follow the chalk marks. Is a good pumpy workout, probably get down there at least once a fortnight. Being 6ft8 it's a 2-3 move top-out, but a friggin hard traverse. What's the bolted line on the long(yarra) side rated at??

EDIT: Just looking at the city side info in the chocky guide it says 4 blocks or less grade 31+....well i l know i cant climb this hard....but there is a 3 move top-out startin from the south-east cnr(arete!!), onto the face, with an easy juggy top out...made it first time...reckon its a V2 max with my limited experience....

As noted on the VCC website, things are sounding more positive this month, work is continuing...

Sorry for slow reply. Frantically trying to finish works at Burnley.
Since our last email we've finished our remedial works to address the asbestos issue.
We have now sent our workers back in to finish the last of the bridge works.
At this stage we expect to complete by the end of June, however, I will come back to you if there is any likelihood of finishing earlier.

As noted on the VCC website it's getting closer... They have also asked for an on site meeting whilst the walls are being reestablished, which we'll hopefully arrange this month.

We are still on schedule to finish by end of June. We are doing the final stages of the post tensioning at the moment. Next phase is to remove scaffold and at the same time reinstate the walls.

Cam and myself were invited on a site tour on Friday evening. They have finished work in the section with the bouldering walls, and have started the Walls Rebuild.

Cam in regulation site safety gear, next to reconstructed 30 deg wall. The Walls are going to get a new coat of paint as well

Also got a first look at the new lights up in the ceiling, this pair between the 30 and 45 deg walls

Work is still continuing in other sections, so it's still on schedule to all finish by the end of June.

Are those lights going to get some sort of protective mesh over the glass? I can see bored youth throwing rocks at them...

Nope, as noted on the VCC website it's been delayed again... Site access mentioned was going to be for route setting, general opening will be later still.

Unfortunately, we are having some variations to the work, additional soil excavation and encapsulation works need to be undertaken which was not captured on original programme. Hence Site access will not be available until mid/late July (estimated).

We will be aiming to complete the works at the Burnley site as quickly as possible, our current estimate is mid August providing we don’t stumble over any more problems. This should allow access to the climbing wall in early August, for the installation of the foot/hand blocks etc.

I hope this doesn’t cause too much inconvenience for you and your fellow climbers; we’ll certainly be doing our upmost to ensure the prompt completion so that we can get the facility operational again.

We have been targeting the 29th July as our completion date; that is with respect to all works required to open the bike path. I’m glad to confirm that we are still on target and I would suggest that on that date we can also reopen the climbing walls.

Thanks for your patience.

I drove past before and they still have the fences up and workmen everywhere, but does look like coming to an end. No hand holds up.

That's right, we're supposed to get access shortly, then we can set, then we can tell people it's open.

Shortly as in today or over the next couple of days/week? From when you get access how long do you think it will take to set/open? Can't wait! This has been a long time coming.

Awesome job on the wall guys. The lights were smoking for my 9pm session.

What's the deal with them? Are they on all night? Was great for climbing but I hope it doesn't attract undesirables.

As far as I know they are on the same timer/sensor as the lights on the path. The certainly came on at the same time the path lights did.
