Thanks strerror, but why only list one? If you goto spadout.com you can see where else has them alot cheaper, than my price, in the States. Also there are any one of over a hundred threads on price differences between our two countries.

Now thats been said, if theres anyone that doesnt want to have go through all the freight forwarding and rerouting etc in order to get MSR products from most US retailers (campsaver included) to Australia and get 'free' delivery from me please call the number above.

Thanks

indeed. The point I was making was that your price would seem to be ~25% higher you can easily get elsewhere, even after delivery, a common issue on these forums with people wanting to sell items at a higher price then they are readily available. Then you've got issues around the veracity of the object, warranty's etc etc buying from an individual.

FWIW I think the tent is a great tent, and I wish you the best of luck selling it, it's just a pet bugbear of mine people trying to sell things at a marked up price from what is readily available.

I don't think its worth wasting your breath. It has been pointed out on past items that grizzly has tried to sell, which by the way is all that grizzly seems to do on this forum. Personally I think this should be classified as spam...

Theres good reason why i dont often post on these forums and generally tend not to even bother reading.

Citation x maybe you should complete your list with the number of items ive sold and bought on these forums, not just listed for sale. You may find there are quite a number of chockstoners who arent quite as vocal with the keyboard as you and who actually peruse the for sale section for the purpose of buying items.

Thanks

i'm sure, as i'm hoping that someone will buy my single marmot down jacket, not 5 different Hubba Hubba Tents. And it's a forum, of my 589 posts (590 now) i'd reckon that 250+ are talking sh!t, and maybe 5 are about selling stuff i own. whereas your stats indicate that of your 37 posts, 33 of them are about selling seemingly brand new gear (or attempting to. at inflated prices compared to what they can be purchased. hmmm. what was that comment you were making about comparing posts with the amount of gear you sell?).

Personal view - so what if the guy is selling tents on here? It is in the right section. As long as 1) they are not duds/damaged/fakes or whatever and 2) he obtained them in a legal/ethical manner (ie he hasn't half inched them from somewhere, then I don't have an issue. People need tents/other gear and if he can get it for them cheaper than the expensive retail ops here then everyones a winner - thats capitalism for you. I get more frustrated that everything costs so much in Oz, The retail industry is asking for entrepreneurs to come and show them a better way. I would certainly prefer to see Australian businesses benefitting but like I say until this backward practice is resolved - its going to happen - see the other threads on Chockstone.

Personally I wouldn't buy one of Grizzlys tents as I get all my stuff overseas, I dont tend to trust second hand gear too much and I travel overseas quite a bit anyway. Having said that I did put in an order on CampSaver for a Hubba Hubba and they have since emailed back saying they don't ship any Cascade Designs / Black Diamond (and a few other brands) to Oz. I had spotted it in their small print on the international shipping page but I was hoping that they might over see this (as I had thought might have been the case for Strerror, but I'm now assuming you used one of those forwarding/rerouting services??). I'll now look at the forwarding service that was mentioned on one of the other threads, but I can see how all of this hastle would lead someone to take the quick, easy and (relative to Aussie prices) cheaper option of purchasing one of Grizzlys tent.

Grizzly - it does look highly suspect that you are selling so much gear here!!!

I agree completely, but what I don't like is people trying to charge prices that are inline with said overpriced gear.

outlines how I do it. It's very simple, sign up to a forwarder, order online in say the states, get everything shipped to your US address for free. Then have packages consolidated (if more then one from say different stores), and sent to you via DHL premium (same price as any other courier and get's here from the states in 2-3 business days max). Some forwarders will let you get premium discounted rates with couriers as well so if you do it regularly you'll save even more on the shipping.

As I mentioned above last couple of times I've bought tents in the states the cost of shipping was ~$55.

Thanks Humphrey,

ALL:
I have no issue with people buying overseas and doing the freight forwarding thing. I make no assertions that i am cheaper or a more viable alternative to those options. However, i personally or my partner travel overseas regularly and I can see the gap between the local market prices and US prices.

If people dont wish to purchase from me thats fine. I post an item for sale and if i dont get any hits it goes to ebay. Either way i get a sale and whoever buys it saves some money versus Australian retail.

Chockstone is a forum for people who generally climb or enjoy the outdoors. I dont sell car parts or computer parts etc on here (nor anywhere else for that matter). As above if people prefer to buy from the US and freight forward and reap the savings and wear the risks (if only minor) good on them. I cater only for those that want to save a few $ and the hassle.

For the record ive sold more than half of the "NEW" items ive posted on chockstone and have never had any complaints about the authenticity or quality of the items. I even go climbing and have made friends with some of these people.

I know where youre coming from as far as buying from overseas, but not everyone is as savvy or has the time to worry about ordering overseas buying overseas and organising freight. Surely you can see the simplicity of making a local/ national call or email and saying i want to buy the tent where can i pickup/ send the cash to?

The tent is now on ebay, if you would like to buy it directly and there are no bids on it im more than happy to do that.

Cheers

Strerror - personal thanks for your info on freight forwarding. I found one of the other links where you had contributed and it was very useful. It does look relatively simple once you dig into it but to the inexperienced it can be a bit "can I be arsed?".

I don't believe that backcountry.com or Mountaingear.com has restrictions on MSR or Black Diamond overseas shipping. At least, they didn't when i last ordered from them last year.

Mods, i think we need to sticky a sales poll titled "Run the Chocky sales gauntlet: Die, die, die capitalist pig scum, we don't want your ill gotten booty/Thanks for hooking me up cuz!" The poll will include all appropriate answers and the only new posts allowed will be to confirm which response you've chosen i.e. Response #4 followed by no more than 2 characters, or a simple +1.

This will be of immeasurable benefit as we won't have to keep writing the same stuff fore or against the seller when they post a for sale thread.

I personally have no problems with Grizz, or anyone looking to give the grey import market a crack. Savvy shoppers will likely research a price on the item, see a $ difference and maybe see if Grizz is up for a bit of bargaining. Non savvy/time poor shoppers may decide the price is fair and jump in.

It doesn't need a mod to set up a poll?

The only gripe I have with grizz is that he generally doesn't contribute to Chocky in the wider sense; ... that combined with using it as a vehicle for selling stuff, seems a bit lop sided. :(

I know! I'm trying to maintain my laziness streak by passing the buck.

I agree, he doesn't seem to contribute much else but I really like his chutzpah. It seems like every one of his posts ends up as a slamfest and yet he keeps coming back...

Pretty sure backcountry do and backcountrygear do as well (I tried to get one past them.. they emailed me saying the order was ready but as it included non-sendable items they did me the courtesty of simply removing it from the order.. I cancelled the order.

Your money not good enough for them?

That would be because Chocky is popular and it works for him.
By frequenting other threads regularly enough he would also know that slamfests are too often the Chocky way of dealing with things, and maybe would'nt feel the need to take criticism personally enough to bother replying to them all on each occasion?*
(*It takes at least two sides to brew a slamfest!)

Maybe instead of the topic heading starting with FS (for sale), or OT (Off topic), Chocky needs to recognise another heading opener NM (niche market). Oh, that's right Neil M already has those initials cornered doesn't he!
;-)

True, Grizz's replies help keep the slamfest going, and interesting. Slamfests are the electronic Pines hammer-time, dealing out vigilante justice where & whenever needed. They are the way, the fun and the right, of every chockstoner. Except for when I'm on the receiving end. Then they suck!
