WANTED - Black Hill (bouldering) guide

Hi everyone. I live in Kyneton and have become familiar with my local crags, Camels Hump and Black Hill. I own the 'Rock climbs around Melbourne' guidebook which is a gem.

Unfortunately, it doesn't have any bouldering information about Black Hill. I understand that an old "Rock Magazine" published a guide to my local crags that had black hill bouldering in it.

Even if it's a crap guide, id still like to own a copy now that I'm living in Kyneton.

Does anyone have a copy I could buy (or borrow for an hour or two)?

Though there is plenty of other good stuff nearby like Mt Alexander and Mt Beckworth.

None of which seem to contain the bouldering information he's looking for...

Even though I don't live nearby anymore, I'd be interested to see a copy of the bouldering guide to Black Hill too.

Those guides don't have bouldering info for Black Hill, do they Patto (putting aside that pretty much everything there could be considered a glorified boulder problem, that is)?

The Lactic Factory used to have a copy of the old Rock issue with the bouldering info, if no-on else comes up with the goods you could try calling in there.

Otherwise, just stomp around the place giving things a shot!

Black hill isn't that big, if you have 2 working legs it's pretty easy to get around and explore. From memory the bouldering is mostly near to routes anyways, so start there and have an explore.

There are plenty of climbs that aren't in either chockstone, the crag or the select climbs guide. Given that the VCC guide is hard to get, and some of the climbs are newer than that, an exploratory disposition is useful. I don't know the names of the majority of routes I have climbed there in recent times.

Hey KG,

Pretty sure there is no "guide" to Black Hill bouldering. I've got the Rock article somewhere, I can dig it up and copy it if you are interested. The best thing in the article was the photo of Nick Sutter's problem The Beast With Two Backs" which makes it easy to find!

Best to just poke around and enjoy, most of the bouldering I have done is away from the roped stuff. Mt Alex has better rock and more potential, though.
