Yup, classicsville!

I saw a replay of a very early episode recently though, it was pretty shit.........lots of obvious jokes and annoying repetition of the 'word of the week'. I think it always takes writers a while to get the characters sorted, then there's stuff to build on. Southpark was pretty lame in the first season too.

That sounds unreal. The spastic in the wheelchair going spastic sounds gold.

Another reason crags get trashed ... is because ppl still cant differentiate between trad , sport , adventure ...

TRAD ... these days ... simply means routes where removable gear is used ... but in the Australian context , this might also include clipping the occasional bolt ... prefferably carrot ..

SPORT ... is a suburban-city -manufactured type of phenomenem , that is totally meshed in with the indoor gym climbing sub-culture ...

ADVENTURE .... well ... u lot still havent made the conceptual leap ...so I shall give u a bit more time to codgitate ...

FINGAL , for example , ONCE UPON A TIME , for a long time , had one of the greatest trad / adventure vibes in Australia .... now Gerry's ' Conan Via Ferretta ' , and his SPORT climbing gallery on the head wall , has changed all that forever ....

....had Sam Edwards used the natural pro that IS available on some bits of Sapphire Rose .... even that route would have fitted in nicely .... especially since it is ' miles ' from the ' classic ' trad / adventure routes ...

I also like Elaines dance ...

That is a complete pile of nonsense. It goes like this:

GYM - the climbing that you spray to your non climbing mates about to prove you are superior.

BOULDERING - the climbing that you spray to your gym climbing mates about to prove you are superior.

SPORT - the climbing that you spray to your bouldering mates about to prove you are superior.

TRAD - the climbing that you spray to your sport climbing mates about to prove you are superior.

ADVENTURE - the climbing that you spray to your trad climbing mates about to prove you are superior.

Hi doc ..

... thats interesting ... in a pissed-in-the-pub sort of way ... BUT I think url find that THESE DAYS , sport climbing is regarded as the ' superior ' state of the art ...

SPORT - the climbing that you BOAST to your bouldering / TRAD / ADVENTURE mates WHO YOU ARE COVINCED ARE INFERIOR TO YOURSELF ...

...and hence there is now a gigantic struggle between sport / trad ala north / south ...with AVENTURE getting lost in the mix .....

... thanks for clarifying the cliches which dominate present debate , doc ...

I'm a fan of Festivus myself. The feats of strength and airing of grievances would fit in well here I reckon.

All this talk of Seinfield and Ben Lomond makes me think of someone running around saying "NO BOLTS FOR YOU!" in the same voice as the Soup Nazi.

On 16/03/2011, nmonteith ,smug-mugged all over his key board :
>>>You have to do several full trad pitches to get to Pole Dancer - so really
>>>its an adventure day with a sport last pitch....

BETTER ... than ' sport route' ... but ...

... its an adventure route as part of an adventure day ...what makes this route distinct from a ' sport ' climb is that bolts are the ONLY feasible protection to facilitate a safe ascent .... had there already been a TRAD route on the pillar ... or no route but with trad potential ... THEN the kiwi-ckhd-migrant , would not only have trashed the other route / potential ... but would also have trashed the whole vibe / spirit / sense of adventure at the entire Cape Rowl area ...

The only other consideration is Messners ' murder of the immpossible ' ....which Greg Child arguably did in the Karakorum ... when he bolted and bat hooked ( but not free climb ) his way up the final sharks-fin blade of rock on the ' first ascent ' of a spire ...... Greg , himself ... was aware of this dilemma when he had drill in hand ....his sense of fair play was over ruled by pressuse not to have the media write off his expedition as a ' failure ' .... ' just 100 feet from the top ' ...

...its also ' good ' that Pole Dancer is also free climbable ...

I also put it to u... that Simeys Free Route on the Totem Pole ...is one of Australia's greatest ADVENTURE routes ...

Love ya work/play , Simey...
