Birthday presents for climbers

All the climbers I know seem to collect the gear they want, making it a bit hard to get presents for climbers. I mean, how many peenuts does one need? So I am after suggestions - what bits of climbing gear can't you have too many of, OR what climbing related present would you like for your birthday/xmas?

I've always wanted to read "arapiles a million mountains" but still waiting for someone to give it to me as a present, only nobody gives big christmas presents any more (which is a good thing) and even i can't remember my birthday anymore (probably also a good thing)

Honestly, I can't see how you can ever run out of birthday gift options for climbers. I go through a set of 16 to 20 draws every 18 months, harness needs replacement every 2 years, ropes every 2 years, shoes every 4 to 6 months, helmets last about 2 years, the list goes on and on.

Top of my list is another full set of OP Link Cams, PM me and I'll give you my mailing address...

oh, i forgot the drill, drill bits, sky hooks, bolt glue and bolts, they cost me a bloody fortune...and the benefit with this birthday present option is that you get to enjoy the giving by falling your way up new routes.

Agreed. Climbers rarely replace things like harness and rope when they should. It's a lot to fork out though- Is that the kind of thing you were looking for?

If you want something smaller, Ed hit the nail on the head, with the chalk.

A big chunk of time so they can do with it what ever the f#$@k they want without having to be home on time to make small talk with people whose opening gambit is "so I hear you're an abseiler"...

Litterally, walk into any climbing store and buy what ever gear is climbing related. You can NEVER have too much, but you can have too little. It will be near impossible to go wrong....

i've got some of those and aside from the neck benefits they're brilliant at keeping the attention focussed on what's going on up above rather than being distracted by the bullshit going on at the base. great for visual gags too when looked at from above the prisms you see the wearer's eyes.
