I thought i'd start a little topic where people can post stuff they see in the 'mainstream' world that relates
to climbing. I'll start with this one from nissan.com.au...

Regarding the Canadian Club ad (and slightly OT so apologies) - in August I went up the Kitzsteinhorn in Austria with the intent of trying the big roof there - 18M1 or something like that - that went over terrain pretty similar to the ad. Several moves of aid to a jug on the lip.

When we got there some local Alpine Club members were doing track maintenance around the base of the cliff. We chatted to them. My German wasn't quite good enough to pick it up first-hand, but my partner soon explained to me that the route we were thinking of trying was now strewn half-way down the valley - the roof had come loose sometime that summer and the whole climb was basically now rubble!

There is a TV ad for Blackberry "All You Need is Love" on air and online at the moment which opens with
a scene of some climbers at what looks like Monserrat in Spain. Unfortunately i can't find a version that i
can link to. It's playing on the homepage of theage.com.au and smh.com.au today...

Long story... several years ago The Age ran an article about 'extreme' photographers or some such nonsense. They profiled a few different people - I was one of them. They used two photos of mine in the article (I gave permission for that but wasn't paid for them). 3+ years later it appears my two photos ended up getting placed in the generic Fairfax photo library - tagged as 'free to use - no credit'. So some guy in the photo department needed a picture of rock-climbing, found my photo in his library and published it. I just told them to remove my photos from their library. I don't have the time to extract payment from them. I think it was an honest mistake somewhere in their system and it was a tiny photo. The guy running the photo library said it wasn't credited because the photo didn't have metadata saying it was © - and thus he presumed it was copyright free. He seemed surprised when i explained to him that everything is copyright unless OTHERWISE stated - not the other way round.

The new Mizone ad has a bit of footage of climbing and evens mentions it in the voiceover, some
malarky about needing the electrolytes for extreme activity.

It is too late for you, Drone. Your corporate overlords will not let you go until they have your
pocketbook and a lean on your soul.
