I can see it now :
Leader to belayer , "Where does this pitch go now? Can you read the description?"
Belayer, " No, I've lost reception"

From this thread it appears that there is enough support for the ACA to warrant keeping it alive. The next logical step is to resolve which option is the best - a new committee or hand-over to the ACA QLD (or other). To that end I'll arrange an open meeting to take place in Blackheath within the next month to discuss it. I hope to see some of you there.

In regard to the festival, we still need that one champion to step forward. There are plenty of volunteers willing to help out, but none yet willing to drive it.

Cheers,
kyle.

And they wouldn't even hear each other if the batteries in their helmet-mounted walkie talkies were flat!

I've just been told that the WEBSITE is now in trouble. The original developer (Dan Roe) is bailing from the site and it now needs a new host AND a new developer. I'm happy to chip in some dollars to keep it running - but I know nothing about database developing do-dads. There is tens of thousands of routes in that database - an incredible amount of work. How can we not loose it???

Remember the quote from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy...

DON'T PANIC!

All it needs is hosting (around 6gb a month) and a developer (SQL/PHP).

So does this means the ACA is dead and the route database needs a new home or does the whole site (Forums, News, Events et al) need a new home?

I'm interested in helping out with development and keeping the hosting alive.

Everything needs a new home - and more importantly a new owner and maintenance man!

6gb of bandwidth a month? How large is the database? What's the disk space requirement?

6gb of bandwidth a month, 250mb of disk space and 25 email addresses.

This is all the current usage and expansion will have to be considered.

So a servage account or similar would be sufficient?

That would have been October, we're now halfway through Novemeber - any idea if/when this meeting will happen? Lots of climbers/students are pissing off to far flung places for the xmas holidays right now - so I think it might not be such a great idea to do it before the new year.

The hosting issue is resolved, but we're still on the look-out for enthusiastic climbing web-developers, if you fit the bill or know someone who does, please get in contact, details are on the www.climb.org.au front page.
