Hex-TROLL is growing on me... i actually think he has the potential to add much to this forum. His history knowledge seems second to none - although very cryptic!

Your getting 34 into perspective research is 'top stuff' BA.

>'persona' rather than genuine illiteracy ?
The attempts at ye olde english might be persona, but there are also too many basic spelling errors to convince me of other than illiteracy.
I did not 'enjoy' the article because of this, and consider the standard of Rock Mag. to be lowered by it. (aka Rock's roving man of letters)
The sad thing is that many today will not pick the difference!

When its that blatant (as above) it becomes persona.
When its as Rock did it in 'kossey's korner' its a worry.
Mind you I can handle genuine illiteracy. Its the choss (rubbish) in between that vex's me!

>takachilpill !!!
Didn't see any ice-cubes when I paddled across the cauldron H-T.
If BC is not going to claim the 'brandy&cigars' how about divvying them up as booty, as we lead on past? (At objective risk of hypothermia, I claim the brandy !)

Catchin' ontaya retro editing H-T ... (wonder if Neil did?), Ve haf veys ov vexig yu ves! no?

Gentle-dude now in a pent-house ? So how about the drink?

>Piggy, once wrote : ' Chronology doesn't [nessaserrally] mean right ' !
No, just a bit run-out & wandery is all.
You watch, we will get flamed on for words said in different context back in 2004 wasn't it? Bet we get flames from someone who doesn't get it (follow) also. I wish I could back the horse at 100:1 odds on who I have in mind ...

Fancy that, chat-rooms within threads ... You are slowing up H-T. For once I think I'm ahead of you. All that research is holding you back!

Now ya talkin', dude !

The roviing man of letters is a re-freshing , ' break-away ' (sodaspeek) from the ' forced-sequences' of 'proper' english usage.

Just wanted to say lots of people on this thread have no idea whatsoever!!

Simon, how can it not be valid? What a joke! If someone knocks a hold off The Bard that I didn't happen to use do I have to go back and repeat it?

Why doesn't anyone think Punks is Invalid, it was made easier not harder, and Wolfgang yo yo'd it anyway so we should give the first ascent to Jerry and to everyone who did it after the hold was glued your ascents are now INVALID!! This is a Joke!!!

Sequence forcing like this has gone on forever, like Mike says it's just not spoken about!

The other sequence was not much (if any) easier, Garth had tried the route for years and Lee and Zach did find it easier than Ben's way but both agree that it most likely would not have changed the grade!

Ben is not sponsored and has no will to be!

If you can't figure out who Hex Troll is you've got issues!

And on the other issue, bolting with ground fall potential is up to the first ascentionest, if your not up for the repeat, top rope it or try somthing with better pro!
There are thousands of well protected routes out there for the Pussies, we need to leave a few bold ones for those with the ability to climb them!

considering this topic died about a month and a half ago, it would seem as though this issue is no longer, well, an issue anymore, at least not one where serious debate is required. However, i think that the way in which you have put forward your points of view in your post will see this thread re-surface. personally, i think this discussion is over, and people need to move on and stop worrying about things that are out of their control (and i'm not pointing the finger silently at people, just as a general term for anyone it may apply to). You have set yourself up for a bit of a spray war me thinks jark with some of your comments.

you said..."There are thousands of well protected routes out there for the Pussies, we need to leave a few bold ones for those with the ability to climb them! "

That is a very elitest and narrow minded view jark. i assume you are one of those with the ability? do you realise that your are actually calling the VAST majority of the climbers out there pussies because they don't risk life and limb for a bold route, as you would. How about this? i dare you next time your at the crag, to go around calling all of the other climbers on routes without potential groundfalls pussies. will you do that? i didn't think so.

basically, get over it. cos it seems that all of us down here in victoria have.

Wow, that is possibly the most exclamation-filled post ever. It does give rise to one question though: if leaving the holds there would not have changed the grade, why did Ben remove them?

I felt strongly about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He liked his sequence better and thought the other way was ugly tic tacing on a crozley edge.

Ha ha alrob, you obviously ain't seen Jark around the crags! He's not known for hesitating to call a pussy a pussy. But I strongly doubt he would do so just to satisfy your challenge.

And while i'm here, in my opinion, the breaking off of those holds does not invalidate the ascent, it just reflects badly on the ascentionist.

So Jark, does that mean Hex-troll is actually Ben! That would really be a laugh. Unfortunately I have issues, so can't be sure!
Anyway, lucky Ben has somebody so persuasive and smooth talking to take his side in the argument, otherwise all those Victorian pussies might start getting big heads or somethin'.
Long live Penrith! (and congrats on your soon to be dad-dom).

hey this comment reminds me of another pretentious comment made by ol' damo a while back. that was a good laugh.. should we be laughing at this as well? or are you being serious mate, only bold climbers are not pussies?
Jark

Mate I'm deadly serious, we can't bolt the piss out of everything!

It seems that the bold climber is in danger of becoming extinct, we need to look after their habitat.

There is a generation of pussies being bread in it's place.

Long live the runout and death route for those that are inclined!!

Maybe theres a reason that 'bold climbers are becoming extinct', the anwers in the statement. Death route + failure = Death which therefore leads to extinction.

I'd like to see you call Rich or myself pussies when we're climbing at araps, because we are palcing gear in the first 5 meters!

If someone who can climb at grade 30 puts up a route that goes at grade 15, and efectively solos it. Does it make someone a pussy because they wish to place a bolt so that if someone falls at the crux they wont deck out?

Bolt = yes.
Passive pro = sensible.
No pro = bold

Next climber along, is not forced to 'do' it, so they should not feel compelled to 'make it safe' by bolting it and destroying the character/history of the climb.

(I'm with Jark on this).

alrob
>That is a very elitest and narrow minded view jark. i assume you are one of those with the ability?
I do not have 'ability', but I enjoy bold Gd 15's, (even bold Gd 6 for that matter!).
Perhaps its 'mental ability', ... or the soloist mentality perhaps?

So, if there's no natural pro, this climb would only ever get repeated by people who can climb way beyond the technical aspects of this climb.
