We were too last weekend. It all looked promising on Saturday morning...

and we strolled up to the cliff...

but then the weather turned, uh, Victorian. A few hardy souls do climb at Moonarie in winter, but your fingers are likely to freeze in shady spots such as The Ramparts. Autumn and spring are the go to access all areas.

Looks like you captured the first vowel of everyone's favourite "impending epic" expletive! ;-)
Silly as it sounds, I'm psyched at the results an old-ish curmudgeon such as myself can get from a hangboard. Just wish I'd thought to buy one 15 years ago!!
For anyone who wants a quick and easy way to get stronger, I can't recommend them enough*!! Just heed all the usual warnings - I don't use it more than twice a week for fear of blowing a fufoo valve.
* yes yes I know training for climbing instead of just going out and doing the real thing is considered poor form, but the results are worth it!

I'd loved to be psyched about climbing. I'll have to make do with being psyched that my shoulder is slightly improved. And that I'm going walking in the kimberley in July. 3 weeks of roaming bits of wilderness that haven't seen people since the indigenous people left the land. Plus warm weather and swimming. Bring on the escape from winter!

My first ever trad lead was the first pitch of "Reed's Regular Route" in Yosemite. My partner and I had just driven in from San Fransisco and couldn't wait to do at least one climb before night fall. It's a short (two pitch) climb to rap anchors that are shared by a few climbs in the area. We got to the anchors along with another party at dusk - and it was getting dark really fast. There were only two headlamps between the four of us - those were used by the first and last down. I was number three - the majority of the rap was in total darkness - but also with millions of stars over my head. Thank God for the other party - I don't know how we would have found the midpoint rap station had we been rapping on one rope.
Today I'm psyched about pushing my sport climbing limits. I've had a lot of success at 21 and 22 in the last year and it's time to start getting on 23s and 24s. I think - no, I know both grades will go this winter. I hear Split Wave is soft :)
edit: I'm also psyched about chalk...

In the same boat though maybe slightly further down the river. I'm psyched that I can get out and do a little climbing again.
