Who hates Chris Baxter?

I should mention that both Glenn and I received some criticism with regard the flak we dished out flak to Chris in our previous guidebooks.

Those criticisms were along the lines of... 'You didn't go hard enough'.

Along with chopping bolts, aerosol campfire explosions, and bouldering... 'Baxter bashing' has always been another form of relaxation at Arapiles. (For the record - it is slightly more popular than bouldering).

Chris should take pride in the fact that he still being talked about. When was the last time Kim got a good old slagging off around the campfire? (or the internet?)

If it's more popular than bouldering Simey, perhaps we need CB grades.

I Campfire slagging
II Contributing to an internet slagging session
III Starting an internet slagging session
IV Chipping insults at the base of the cliff
V Dishing out shit in print (preferably in a guidebook)

I'd switch 4 and 5 around. That immortal inscription will be there 1000 years after the last guide book is eaten by silver fish.

Especially as every year on Chris's spawn day we have a ceremony at the base of castle crag and clean up the inscription with a wire brush and chisel.

Of course grading is very subjective. I just wanted to come up with a system where I can finally say I have achieved the highest grades.

Maybe it should be open-ended however.

Harsh Westie!

From the little I've read about this cat he seems to have been quite a character and let's face it a scene without characters leaves us a little poorer.....................

Very true Bob. Chris is a character who has contributed to the scene enormously.

I should add that much of the inspiration for the guidebooks that Glenn and I do came from the early guidebooks that he edited which were very entertaining and were like bibles for us.

(His later guides, although they contained a lot more routes weren't as inspiring, or as user-friendly).

That's fine mate and I'm sure you don't mean any of those sentiments but it just took humourous aspect out of the thread.

Obviously he's used to copping some friendly ribbing and I'm not saying let's get precious about the whole thing but...............

Funnily enough RE: his aiding of a grade 9 I've been climbing some 10's and lower at araps and encountered some bulges and the like and though "will it go?" sheesh it's only a grade 10 pucker up and commit but there are moments when you think will I make it even with all the modern gear and shoes we possess today.

Rumour has it that he has been putting up some new routes lately in some secret locations....

Good on him!!

I never got on overly well with Chris nor agreed with his editorials or editorial control of Rock but at least he is still impressively out there climbing...

That's hardly a rumour. He has been doing that for the last 40 years.

And most of his additions you can read about in the New Routes section of Rock - a section mainly devoted to Chris's routes.

Did Wilde say that before or after he was in Reading Gaol and got raped and abused?
