That's a Thursday night ...maybe an ideal event for an inner city chockstone garthering, just without the barby!!

Had our premiere last night. Fun for all, but general consensus was that it's no Hollywood no-brainer.
For some reason, the click of turning the Petzl Zooms on and off disturbed members of the audience intensely :-) Anyone remember if the old Zooms did actually click or not?

Nope - they didn't click - you just turned a silent barrel on the lens.

sorry. Double negatives are never my strength. What I meant was that the movie is good! And as a result, that it would probably never do well at the mainstream box office.
I was pretty sure that the Zoom was a silent swivel. For some reason all the petzl's in the movie click.

Maybe I have real old Petzl but it "clicks". There are two lugs that act as the 'switch' to stop it turning on accidently and mine makes a noise when it's turned on or off. But wether it is the same sound that you hear in the movie I'll find out later.

Finally its here. And not a bit too soon as it is already out on DVD.
Hoyts have a release on 24/6/2004 but through a web search I found this link to the Outdoor Education Association who have an advanced showing on Friday June 4th.

Welcome back Rod. Get any climbing done in the UK? Hope Alana didn't watch the movie or you'll never be allowed out again.
( I suppose you want your drill back soon?)

For anyone in Tassie, the State Cinema in Hobart has the Australian Premiere of Touching the Void on Friday 18 June 2004. I think it is on at 8:30pm (best to check though).

Come along, see it on the big screen only a few days after release and know that much of your ticket price goes to sharing the climbing experience with young people who need it most.
For tickets please email me or

Cheers
Alec.

Great movie! Watched it tonight and thanks to Petter for the free tickets.
Also impressed that the crampons were real (sorry...but believe it or not the crampons in movies like Vertical Limit were all plastic.....I kid you not!) although not sure they looked like mid 80's vintage.
....and don't leave your base camp without your prussics so you can escape the system, otherwise the only choice you will have it to cut that damn rope!
