I remember my first look at araps. We got there , it was damp, walked right to the middle of tiger wall and saw all this damp moss and lichen and thought wtf this place is a hoax. It turned out it was rather ok.

Why not? The bouldering is good!*

*Last time I went to Arapiles was to just boulder.

Have fun Claire, it'll be a rad trip for sure. I remember driving up to it the first thinking, "Compared to the Wasatch Front this place isn't too big, what's all the fuss?" Then I realised quality trumps quantity, unless talking about cheap coke. Or so I've heard...

At araps you arrive. Make a camp. crack a tinnie. go for a very short walk and climb rocks. Drag pad back to camp. make sure its not to close to the fire (coz if you are smart you are there in winter) that it sets alight, hit some no name dry red and mae goreng. drag pad into tent and fall asleep.

I went to the Grampians also. But I hadn't been back to Arapiles in many years so wanted to spend a few days cruising the boulders there too. It wasn't during a holiday period so I had the place nearly to myself!

Some of the problems at Araps are as good as anywhere IMO.

No, but I assume by the time we have gotten there and set up there will only be enough daylight left for a quick boulder. We are jumping on the rock proper tomorrow. On the train now!

will5686 the Grampians are much better for bouldering and general stuff like that. Get a car and take me there and I will happily give you a tour.

Black Range is my absolute favourite place. I'd live there if I could.

Yeah, widewetandslippery and I have added a fair few problems there.

It was Black Range that got me hooked on searching for new boulders and cleaning and developing problems. Every time we went for a wander, we would find new stuff. Unfortunately, we were a lot better at finding new problems than documenting them (as with The Bleeding Nun).

I keep meaning to go there and write some of them up but it hasn't happened yet.

Stoked I'm marrying a beautiful girl tomorrow.

Sorry to derail climbing talk with mushy stuff. If its any consolation we're honeymooning in Tassie so we can check out a few places..!

Stoked my copy of Dave MacLeod's new book, '9 out of 10 climbers make the same mistakes' arrived in the mail today.

Being someone who makes mistakes all the time, it sounds like my kind of book.

Stoked that I gave birth to our perfect little boy - David Jack Andrews - on Australia day.
Our "little" big boy weighed in at 8lbs 1 oz (3650g) and was 54cm long. He's got really long arms and legs and is already working on his grip strength - so it looks like we're gonna have another climber in the family.

(Gutted that I needed an emergency C-section and won't be able to climb for at least another 3 months :P )
