por favor! Si nosotros somos "mexicanos" llama usted mismo su apropiado nombre! Ustedes no son
"northerners" pero estupido "SEPPOS". Entiende? Seppos como "septic tank" algo por el agua del bano.
O si prefiere puede ser "gringos", pero yo prefiero "seppos" porque me trae la memoria de su olor.

I see your point, so from now on I shall refer to mexicans as ' wetbacks '.

I'm trying to see your point....but.......

The point is, the terms 'northerner' and 'mexican' are not derogatory terms and therefore have equal value/power, so to speak. The term 'seppo', however, can be seen as a derogatory term, so 'seppo' and 'mexican' do not have equal value/power. By substituting 'wetback' for the term 'mexican' we once again have terms with equal value/power. Unless, of course, you believe the term 'mexican' to be derogatory. If this was so, there would be a good case for calling you a racist.

It's a bit like saying ' You can call me heterosexual and I'm going to call you a shirt-lifter'

See my point now?

nup & getting all foucauldian on me doesn't wash either. You're going to have to try harder to get a guernsey on my debating team.

though we might let you come and watch us practice as long as you bring some lamingtons & cucumber sandwiches (we'll supply the tequila)

Basically, I was bored and taking the piss. I don't give a rodent's rectum what you guys call us or vice versa. Actually, according to my birth certificate, I'm a Queenslander. Does that make me a 'cunuck'?

However, the whole discourse has been worthwhile as far as I'm concerned, because I got to see the term 'foucauldian' used in a thread. That's the duck's nuts!

It has also given me an idea to get past the mods when it comes to telling someone where to go. I'll be able to tell them to 'go and get foucauld'.

Cheers.

Basically, he said something like this:

"If we are Mexicans then call yourself by the appropriate name. You are not northerners but stupid 'seppos'. Understand? 'Seppos' as in septic tank, the water in the toilet. Or you can call yourselves foreign but I prefer 'seppo' as it reminds me of the smell."

My spanish is a bit rusty but I think that is the general idea.

I thought the term 'seppo' was to be used exclusively for people from the great US of A. Have I been mistaken all these years and could have been using it to describe my Qld dwelling sibling?

No, I think Stugang is saying that if Victorians are 'mexicans', then New South Welsh persons are seppos. Don't know what that makes Queenslanders. Maybe canucks.

It doesn't really leave room for people from S.A, W.A or the Northern Territory and probably means Tasmanians can be called Cubans.

I don't know. Ask Stugang. It's his construct.

ahhh, the penny drops. so what about it stugang. am i really to be called a 'seppo'. if so, then your construct sucks ar$e big time.

ww summarised it pretty well. The only thing I'd disagree with is that its not my construct so to
speak...all i did was point out what country was north of mexico....so as they say in the
schoolyard..."you started it"...Despite that its beginning to grow on me.

Actually I thought people north of the border were convicts.
