Ten things I have to do before I die

I'm well on my way to buying a beer for someone in ten different countries, does that count?

The above are all good ideas, but then how about once you have ticked your list:

Doing 10 things for other people that don't directly benefit you
Fixing 10 things you screwed up in your life
Doing 10 things for your children's children

Nooooooo I'm turning into a hippy!

Ten things you should do before you die

1) Flog the crap out of a rental car

2) Build a good woody (not some of the pathetic efforts shown on this site)

3) Blow up a letterbox

4) Get a proper job, then chuck it to go climbing

5) Sleep with an Argentinean

6) See the Northern Lights

7) Make a shit of yourself in a chatroom

8) Sit on a beach eating a mango you just picked

9) Run from the cops

10) Play in a band (doesn't matter how bad you are)

hehehe

item #2- bring deep fried chicken or similar for lunch at the crag then have a jump on your buddy's project. "oh sorry i've got no idea where all that grease came from, must be the humidity"

Cool! Except for # 2 and # 6, I've done all of those ones.

These are the big ones which I am definately going to do:

1. Motorcycle tour from Scotland back to Australia via Asia (this convieniently takes care of the rest of the places in Asia I want to visit)

2. Ride Whistler's bike park

3. Climb Mt Aspiring

4. Snowboard all the major lines off Feathertop (amazingly haven't done this yet!)

5. Surf Thurso in northern Scotland

6. Continue to work in an environment which is conducive to spending lunchtimes surfing and early knock-offs for surfing/climbing/MTB related action while helping to save the environment at the same time (ie, maintain the status quo)

7. Raise a family and pass on my (and Gem's) appreciation for nature and the outdoors

8. Trip around Oz with the family

9. Hike the circuit from Harrietville to Feathertop to Falls Ck to Bogong to Mt Beauty to Harrietville

10. Continue to lead a happy, healthy and fulfilling life in all aspects until I die

Hey Paulie thats 11 (not ten) things. Heh, heh, heh.

>Motorcycle tour from Scotland back to Australia
The bike trip sounds good (mind the big puddles), and Thurso is also a worthy ambition, ... & btw can be done at midnight in summer too! (Scotlands answer to Mundacca!)!

My mate Marty and I had orginally planned to cycle tour from the UK back to Oz but lack of time and funds (and other priorities) thwarted us. So now we're planning on doing it by motorbike! Faster, easier and less time required.

The idea of surfing at Thurso when I was there last was the last thing on my mind...bloody cold, wet and miserable, but now that it's been the same weather here for the past month it doesn't seem so bad...besides, any further north and it's Arctic!

Thread bump.

Hmm.
For those that have posted previously; ~> How is the list going?

Re the original topic...
As an older fart*, I find that 'normal' life commitments tend to get in the way of 'things to do'; ... & as such, my expectations have been revised downwards...
(*... ~> am glad that kuu and some other older climbers have outstripped me on that score ;-) ... Heh, heh, heh.)

~> I have learned to be happy with the simple things.

For example;
*Helping out the elderly rellos, (and hopefully my kids will do the same for me if I ever need it ;-) ).
Half-tick.

*Combining climbing with motorcycling, (tick)..

*Going climbing as often as reasonable! ~> as touching rock is good for the soul; ... as is introducing others to the climbing game. (tick)

* Hmm. ... $-dependant, but going to Antarctica or Iceland for twelve months, just to experience the darkness for 6 months and the aurora borealis (ie more than the brief trip I had to Lapland in their summer), and do some trekking, & climbing along the way.

* Maybe a new route on a Baffin Island (or Patagonian equivalent) big wall.

5 only?
Hmm; ~> I must either be simple indeed, or pretty well satisfied with life thus far...
~> Yeah, I reckon the latter is the case.

Since 2007 I have..

1. Build my own house
Renovated one. Does that count? Probably No. Fail.

2. Overcome chronic back pain
Weekly Pilates with the Yummy Mummies keeps it away. Tick.

4. Get in pic of the week on chockstone
Fail. I reckon its rigged.

7. NOT have kids.
Tick.

9. Understand the auto electrics in my car.
Fail. But I found a good auto electrician, so can I substitute another one: "Go ride my bike somewhere exotic for a long time".

10. Learn to play a single musical instrument well.
Does the arse-trumpet count?

Bloody hell, I wasn't very creative with this in 2007!

Tick. Although one could spend a lifetime doing this.

>Ski in Switzerland (thats a no brainer...!)
Failed as I'm yet to reach Europe.

New list. In no particular order:

1. Finish my doctorate and get a few good publications.
2. 3-4 month climbing holiday in Europe, covering most major destinations.
3. Climb the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, Eiger, Aspiring and maybe Cook. Maybe also a few trekking peaks in Nepal.
4. Spend a few weeks ice climbing in Colorado or somewhere in Canada.
5. Get a job in my chosen career path.
6. Join the Vic Alpine SAR (in doing so work towards meeting all entry requirements).
7. Get back to leading trad routes above grade 20.
8. Run a marathon.
9. Climb around Australia including Frog, Blue Mountains, Ben Lomond, Moonaire, Blue lake (ice) and Frenchmans cap.
10. Do all / most of the above in the happy company of wifey.

Just realised I started this thread seven years ago and never posted my top ten, so here goes, including some I’ve ticked off and some I never will.

1 – live at the beach and surf everyday
2 – hike the Razor–Viking (after three failed attempts)
3 – play in a band in front of an actual audience, and not have the audience walk out (tick)
4 – hold up the Premiership Cup after playing in a Grand Final at the MCG (ain’t gunna happen)
5 – Climb the North Wall of Buffalo Gorge (climbing around grade 8 now, maybe need some more practice)
6 – get rid of leukaemia (this one’s in my blood, but I’m working on it)
7 – make a living out of photography
8 – quit working at an age where I can still do stuff
9 – hike around south west Tassie (partly ticked, gotta go back)
10 – gain control of the Australian parliament so that things get done the way I want
