Sorry to go off topic once more,

What's the story with lead climbing over people already on top rope routes at Nunawading. This has happened so many times there. It gets to the stage were my partner has to stop climbing and sit on the rope to wait whilst the leader climbs across the route, or even one or two clips above. The best one is the leaders who scamper in and jump on while you're tying in. You check your knots, turn around to check your belayer, turn back and someone is on the climb. I've chipped a few people about this and the answers I got were typically, "oh, I knew wouldn't fall on that route", but the one that got my goat was "well, he IS a lead climber". Seriously, someone will get hurt one day through peoples arrogance.
Anyone else experienced this?

The eticate is you give way to people allready on the wall. lead climbers shouldn't start climbing underneath people on top rope and vica versa. You should talk to the staff at the gym about this, they are the ones with the power to fix it.

At Urban Climb In Brisbane, they close down routes either side of where you're leading, 2 things occur, you can't just "jump on and climb", as you have to wait for either route to be clear, and you can only lead on certain nights because of the restrictions this places and it cuts down routes available to non-lead climbers!

Everything is a trade off!

PS when does the citty store open?

Um.. Yeah.
Experienced this each of the three times I have been there.
Nice manners, hey! I've had people start climbing the same route I'm on while I am still on it!
Funny thing, at least one time it was a staff member... so its not " well he IS a lead climber" but more like "well he IS a lead climber, and he works here!".

Not that I really give a shite, but was just interesting after the reach-around you need to go through to lead climb at said gym in regards to safety, that it gets thrown out the window by some.. anyways

Guess its just another reason we should all be outdoors aye?!

But back on topic.. the new City climbing wall looks AWESOME!

The CBD gym is not far away, I know you have heard this all before, but ist true, its only a matter of time- suggest that you do weekly checks on www.hardrock.com.au to get more info.

At the present time there are ropes on the Pinaccle, there are ropes everywhere. One side of the pinnacle is lead only and they other we are debating about.
All walls are lead capable and tested in both Nunawading and CBD.

Tueday nights at Nunawading are "group" free nights, that means no community groups are booked in after 8pm, so its all yours to play with. This night you shouldnt have people top rope on top of you leading- I say shouldnt. The artic wall is lead only- no top ropes at on on this wall, so you have that to your selves, the roof is the same.

The CBD will have early mornings openings and we will also keep Tuesday group free.

With regards to leading in the gym, its not that long ago that there were only top ropes about.

Leading is a nightmare in any complex and we all do our best to keep it controlled. Insurance companies do not like lead climbing at all -they charge us more for letting it happen.
Altona charges more if you want to lead, there and limits the amount of people at any one time doing so. This is to cover the extra costs associated with leading.

.

Gym owners do their best to accommadate eveyone- its just that we can not please eveyone all the time.

I was delivering some equipment there on friday and had a good walk through. The walls seem alot higher than nunawadding. Some good features and I noticed a crack/feature climb. No bouldering though :( Was told it would open on monday but plans may have changed.

Was also told it'd be open on Monday (on Saturday), however I just walked by then and it's certainly not open today (at least not now).

Just had a chat to Sue, the owner and it sounds like next Monday is the most likely.

Walking past, it looks like all the walls are done, holds are all up. Attachment points for draws are up, but no quickdraws yet that I could see.

Yes,
Monday and this time no later.

We are having some issues with the technical stuff, like compters, and phones, they dont talk, no eftops at present as that line dosnt talk either- we do have a data line that keeps ringing every 5 seconds, Its driving us mad!!!! Bring cash for your fist visit.
Bathrooms need a last fix up as we now have a new toilet from the one that was borrowed and we replaced the connections that were borrowed after the toilet was replaced. Replaced the ropes that were stolen along with some draws and so on and so on. Oh and a new fire door cause the old one was faulty.

We are a bees whatsit from opening after a long journey.

Another day or so and then you can play.
The walls are 15mts plus 85% at this stage are lead.

Parking is 2 -4 hours around the place. Tram stops out the front, enter via Franklin street, catch lift to 2nd floor.
All day parking on sundays in franklin street

Bike racks still have to be installed by developers, that could happen this week- I am not holding my breath!

As it is so close I will do a daily up date for you.

Sue
