Hello,
my name is Jacques* and I am addicted to climbing.

It started with a "friend" asking me if I wanted shot a climbing with him about a year ago. We went to one of the places where people do it, they call it a "crag". I attached a rope to myself and hit the rock. I became addicted.

Since then I have been getting shots of rock every weekend and I use a subsitute known as "plastic" during the week. I have a normal life the rest of the time and most people I study/work with don't know about my problem with rock.

Everything was fine when I could get my dose. But right now, I cannot climb because of a small overdose (called "rupture of the medial collateral ligament" in the users' lingo). I can't even get shots of plastic, so I resort to a very decadent "finger bored" to stay out of trouble. I even find myself looking at climbing websites for hours. I think about rock all the time, I can't study anymore.

How do you manage your addiction when you're injured?
How can I keep studying effectively and stop thinking about rock 24/7?

-----------
*Fake name as I'd prefer to stay anonymous.

get off the hang board you will just get sick of it anyhows, or do another inury.

take the op to rest completly, play alot of trouser snake pulling and video games.

then when your better get some DVD's to get you amped for the clip

(do not bash the bishop if you have tendonitis of the elbow, learn to use the other hand, better still im told that a partner of the oposite/smae sex can do a good job also.)

also get off chockstone as the mind numbing boredom will drive you nuts, and the forum nazis will give you the shits, I mean we are mostly all grown ups (or try and act like it) and can handle a little bit of potty mouth for christ sake. So go post on www.cragx.org where all the people who actualy enjoy climbing are.

Go and buy yourself a drill and big box of ring bolts, and start bolting some lines. Then when you are better you can climb them.

Also, go and helpout with rebolting efforts.

Thanks for the advice!
Helping with maintaining climbs sounds like a good idea... But there's enough existing bolted climbs for me at the moment, no need for more. Otherwise I'll follow Hatman's advice and go to the video store to get some climbing DVDs other DVDs with people climbing, but not on rock.

That should do it. In the meantime, I've found that bouldering (on plastic) with one foot is not that bad... just have to be careful coming down!
