The Goatathlon is on again this year, after Steve Monks won the inaugural event last year.

For those of you not familiar with this prestigious event, it is rather dodgy triathlon which this year will most likely involve running up and down Arapiles, riding up and down Arapiles and swimming a few laps in the fire dam.

I'll post some more details in the near future.

Been training hard Simey? You looked a bit bummed getting beat by Monksy last year...

I predict a similar result this year.

Oh well, I had my revenge in the Horsham Triathlon this year.

If I design a course that has more swimming and running than riding, I have a chance.

I also hear that Adrian Lang is keen to make amends after finishing second last year and is currently in training.

Hopefully a few of the gun triathletes who frequent Chockstone (Fat Boy, Dalai) will get inspired to put in an appearance.

First I've heard of it. Unfortunately I am working over Easter so won't be able to make it this year. More details about the event would be good.

O.K. time for some more details on Goatfest 06.

Doors will open at 6.30pm. It’s starting to get dark around then, so unless your having a complete epic out on the crag, there will be plenty of time to finish climbing for the day then come in and have a drink and a meal before the films start.

Food will be a choice of three different curries and rice, as well as coffee and cakes at intermission. Beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks will be available at the bar.

As I have extended the deadline for receipt of films, I don’t know how much I’ve got yet, but it is shaping up to be about 20 to 30 mins of short films. There will be a Judges Prize and an Audience Prize (as determined by a show of hands on the night).

Next film is “The Hard Way to the Top”, 2 routes in 1 day on the north wall of Mt Buffalo Gorge.

Then we have intermission where you can get coffee and cakes, if there’s any curry left you can have that as well, and the bar will still be open. Intermission will be about 30 mins.

Then the feature film is “Kilimanjaro: Going for Broke”, produced by Slackjaw Films U.K.

The films will finish around 10pm, and we’re licensed until 11pm, so you can hang around for a drink or two if you like.

Hi there,

Was wondering when the new deadline for short films is? We have a short (5min) climbing doco that we would love to have in the festival.

Thanks.

Hi there jonorock,

Nothing like having a deadline to inspire people to go beyond it. I've decided to keep accepting entries up until I actually start showing the films. It would be handy to get them as early as possible.

Is your doco ready? If so I'll PM you my P.O. box number and you can post it to me, or we make some other arrangement.

cheers

Eduardo

What's this tread doing off the front page???? Hurry up with those films people.

I can now confirm that the prizes for best film (Judges prize and audience prize) are a $200 voucher at the Arapiles Mountain Shop.

Hi Eduardo,

We have just about finished and should be able to post down to you early next week but there is always the chance something goes to crap in which case we might have to drop it off. We will be driving down from Canberra on Friday so could drop it off that afternoon/night but we will aim to post it.

Thanks,
Jono.

Cool. If you end up dropping it off, take it to the Arapiles Climbing Shop, they'll either pass it on to me or give you directions to my place.

cheers

What no goat curry on the menu? This is a major disappointment. No goat, no attendance.

......and as if you needed any more enticing to attend Goatfest 06, there will be a door prize for those who give their e-mail address for the ACT to use to advertise up coming events, as well as the Goat d’Or for best film (1 from the Judges and 1 from the audience). Each prize is a $200 voucher redeemable at the Arapiles Mountain Shop.

Well that was Goatfest for another year. Thanks to everyone that came along, and a big thanks to everyone that submitted a film.

Now there’s only 363 days until the next Goatfest so get started on your movies.

As the most popular film, as voted by the audience, was Neil’s Base Jumping movie, I’ll open up the criteria for films to be about any outdoor activity (e.g. skiing, mountain biking, kayaking, what ever). I figure that everybody that came along is into outdoor stuff, so the films should reflect what people are into. I will exercise my discretion as festival co-ordinator to give preference to climbing films though.

The Judges prize went to Jono & Heather from Canberra for their film on Integral Crack at Booroomba Rocks. Congratulations to you both.

I would appreciate any feedback from people who attended the evening so that we can try and make the next one better. I’m happy to hear from you if you liked the event, but I really want to know how to make it better. What were the prices like? Was the food what people wanted? Was it a reasonable price? Any suggestions for the bar list and/or prices there? Anything else?????

Please either post on this thread, or send me a PM.

Cheers

Eduardo
