That's the bloke!
... and given the reminder, I have just now sent another email to him to see if he is available for the job again...

Luxury! Why when I were a lad...
;-)
... there is actually something good to be said for the old ways, though I am trying to give myself some more flexibility in a greater range of conditions with some of the new technology high spec gear available these days.

Oh by the way, Dalai your trip sounds great, best of luck with it, I hope to read a TR about it one day.

Best,

Hi Martin, Steve C here. I saw your post the night before I left for the Mawson trail. Anyway I just got back. A great adventure, highly recommended. I caught the bus North and went top down. I rode my Niner MCR with bikepacking kit. Total distance was a tad longer than anticipated at 940k. I did the complete trail in 5 days averaging 188/day, about 10 hours of pedalling/ day. My kit was about 6 kg all up including packs, without food and water. You can find the details on Strava and are welcome to email or call if you want. Just do it.

I just finished the Monaro Cloudride 1000.
I wrote up a summary here:

sch, nice going at 188km/day!

Cheers Climberman, Great effort on the Cloudride. My plan A was to ride that event but the Mawson seemed logistically easier and also a lot less climbing. I rode Healesville to Omeo on the BNT last year and got very wet. The desert seemed like a good alternative. Thanks for the report.

You've intrigued me about the Mawson. Will have a Google on it. Cloudride is an interesting combo of effort and logistics.

Congratulations on finishing! Great write up.

I was following the reports and saw some nasty conditions you had to endure. Definitely keen to try one day though...

Enjoy Dalai, may you have good weather and good fortune. You will cruise it. The hill at the start going south to north will be a challenge, but it is a lovely ride through the landscape.

Thanks. Looking forward to it! How did you do in regards to flats? Heard a lot about the thorns along the Bundaleer Channels so packing extra tubes and patches!
