In the memories of those climbers who like Led Zepplin. And on Commercial FM radio :)
For a lot of the Climber Kids nowadays, Led Zep is sort of like classical music - not 'now' & 'happening'
especially since it probably won't annoy their parents as the current
grindcorespeedthrashdeathpolishedmetal or hummingbirdBPM Minimal Techno does ;)

i thought retro rock was the big thing these days- people dressing up like its 1975 (like i was there..) and acting all arrogant rock-god like as if its a new style. not even a reinterpretation of it, but a plain cut+paste job- posters, haircuts, attitude & all.

but anyway led zep is timeless, its never gone out of style. and with the current trend of recycling popular culture (movies, tv, music) it doesn't look like it'll go anywhere soon. especially since the playlist of stations like MMM in sydney have added about 10 songs since 1990 and their listeners think bands like powderfinger are new.

aww i dunno i would say classic would be something like Iron Maiden or better example Judas Priest whereas heavy (i think) would be like In Flames (i can't think of another catagory for them, i DID however see them live, they were sweeeeeeeeeett, my ears were ringing for DAYS!!!) i've never heard of atmosphereic before??!! band example?

>Did you catch the Nightwish concerts?? Very impressive live.

Sabu, whats wrong mate, i cant believe you havent mentioned Mettalica once yet, there the best Heavy Metal band ever, and will be forever, who could forget Hero of the Day, or Enter the Sandman, there timeless and have kept goin through the ages. that gets me really psyched before a session in the gym.

I met an Irish bloke at Araps who would start singing that out quite loudly every time he go scared, it was hilarious!

Per used to sing Brittany Spears' 'Over protected' when he was feeling run out

He lived in Melbourne for a year, and drove to Araps every weekend in his XF wagon. The only tape he had was the Dandy Warhols' 'Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia', which must have done a million laps in that year.

I visited him in Oslo this year (3 years since he was in Aus, maybe?). Couldn't help but noticed the same CD was in his player when I arrived. Reminiscing perhaps.

hmmm, don't know In Flames. Maybe it's my age showing but heavy and classic are pretty much the same thing. Some bands like to make up their own genre classification, Atmoshperic was just one I remember from the Metal Reviews website.

Nightwish played a lot of stuff from Once (no suprise!!), I couldn't tell you what they played from there other albums. The boys did play Floyd's Division Bell when her mike died.

As for Metallica well St Anger is Crap, but Puppets is goddamn brilliant.

i'm sorry sabu. but i reckon U2 has to be the best band. (as you know) music for climbing, or in general, it is fantastic. 'where the streets have no name' is an absolute classic, and seems to suit arapiles perfectly, escape from the city and the like into a world where you don't worry about anything but the moment. stunning.

(and wheres rock and roll in the poll? 'start me up', rolling stones is awesome to get the blood pounding 4 a climb!)

Joshua Tree was out Vancouver to Red-Rocks road trip theme disc. Lots of desert driving through the country that inspired the album

BTW I picked up Robert Plant's latest album, "Mighty Rearranger" last week, well worth a listen.

I really enjoyed the idea when climbing comps allow you to play your own music when you climb. Otherwise music belongs at the woodie or gym or any urban crags that may exist. Certainly not at any state or national park, if you need music take an ipod or something.
