Public Statement – BURNLEY IS COMING!

Dear Climbing Community,

It is my great pleasure to (at long last) inform you that our application for a Planning Permit to construct Bouldering Walls in Burnley, VIC, has been APPROVED by Council.

This means we will DEFINITELY be in a position to deliver to you a bouldering facility as per the plans we submitted to council. Since the bouldering walls will rely on CityLink infrastructure, a more detailed version of the plans must still pass through the offices of CityLink for perusal, checking for calculation errors etc. Though it should be noted that I have been assured that this process is not one which could stop the project from proceeding. We will DEFINITELY be constructing the Burnley Bouldering Walls.

I look forward to bringing you more news as it comes to hand. In the meantime, may the celebrations begin!

A huge thankyou to all those that have put in a lot of hard work to date, and a big thankyou to all those who have already signed up to assist on the next phase of the project.

Best Wishes,

Jacqui Middleton

Nice work Jac.

Just hope there will be a few easier things to climb (as opposed to the old Burnley). And hopefully that will attract more cute bumbly girls as well.

Thanks simey,

In response to your question, there will be more than one route on the new facility. This will allow us to cater for a variety of abilities. Hope it attracts some chickbabes for you simey :-)

Great news about Burnley Jacqui!

PS. Looks like Simey is continuing in the tradition of Damien.

In fact I was thinking that it might be good for the social development of some of the younger, more obsessed male climbers (like Dalai).

Girls are the last thing young obsessed male climbers need nearby. Look what has happened recently to Kent!!

But on the question of easier walls (from the VCC website about the project - design may have changed?)

Panels 1 and 2
Holds glued directly to the existing concrete pier. These panels would be vertical, and are best suited to novice to intermediate climbers. It will be possible for people to climb in a continuous loop around the panels, since holds could be attached to the ends of the concrete piers.

Panel 3 and 4
These panels would be on a self-supporting steel structure independent of the concrete pier (with plywood sheets attached to steel framework). Length of Panels 3 & 4: approx. 14m each (one old Burnley panel was about 19m long) Panel 3 is proposed to be 30 degrees overhanging, and would feature intermediate to hard climbs. Panel 4 is proposed to be 40 degrees overhanging, featuring intermediate to very hard climbs. Unfortunately, space constraints at each end of the pier mean that it does not seem to be possible to provide a linking wall between Panels 3 & 4.

Excellent work Jac.
Does it include a holding pen for the uncute older climbers drooling at the attractive young ones?

Free?... you have to wear an e-tag around your neck while bouldering. There will be a toll gate on the split between the first and second panel.

Loved it. ROTFL. Perhaps pitons would be more appropriate for the older climbers though.

Well you can get them full price at citylink, but I think bne might have some to sell for some low low special Mexican price, you'll have to talk to him about it.

I hear that some of the outdoor shops are agents for setting up burnley accounts,
marketing them as B-tag. apparently they sell day passes as well

just send your B-tag to me along with $50, and I'll write the wild country logo on it with a permanent
marker. with 10% off for VCC discount, that would be $45.

The bonus is that the cops can shock you with them if you stay out past curfew. Pretty useful for the kinda guys who'd be leashed to the pitons.

And instead of that really annying beeb as you pass the gate, the b-tag plays a random pre-programmed "bouldery" message, like "come on" or "stick it". and you can unfold it and there is a toothbrush inside. Will even come with a special velcro which will attatch to most beanies.

They are working overtime at the factory here in mexico...keep those orders coming...
