Why are black climbs impossible to climb?

@ SICG, the far LHS corner of the gym had the routes for the aust nat difficulty championships that were on in late august.

I find climbing these routes are interesting, because they are set such that each move, each hold you use, is getting progressively harder. If they didn't do this then all the people in one group who could "climb 15's" would all get to the next round, and there would be no competition.

The under 12 girls qualifier (blue holds?) & the under 14 boys qualifier (red holds?) were tough but I dogged em. I looked at the traverse for the under 16 girls final (I think it's on the wave wall ..?), which was set using blue holds & knew it was totally over my head.

But I think the whole point of climbing is the challenge, not constant re-assurance that "yeah, I can climb red routes, so this gym must be screwed cause I can't climb em here". It doesn't matter what colour or grade it is; just whether or not you can set yourself the challenge and meet it. If you can't, whoops, try again next time.

Indoor climbing at SIRG is for the punter or the birthday party goer, not for the climber that want to develop. Those guys have a great gym, but it is ruined by poor route setting. For sure the comp routes are good, but there are only so many times one can climb the same route over and over again. The purple and blue routes on the steep wall near the bouldering are awesome to climb, I guess these where comp routes... Lets see some more routes like that, please.........

I Guess being colour blind helps to explain why I always thought indoor climbing was the biggest crok of shit.
Thanks guys for clearing that one up for me!
