OT - Campervan spots around Bendigo.

I'm travelling from Canberra to the Gramps this afternoon and I'll be in my campervan for the first time. Depending on when I leave, I reckon I'm gonna wanna stop for the night around Bendigo. Now I'm not fussy, but I was hoping to get something slightly less shit than your average highway truck stop. All I need is a toilet and not too many trucks thundering past in the night.

Anyone know of good spots to stop?

Have you checked wikicamps?
Comes as a phone app and you can apply filters for your preferences, and distance distribution.
There’s heaps of good free camping in that area ...

The Bendigo side of Shepparton there's a free (at least it was last time I was there) campground next to Green Lake. Not great, but far enough away from the highway to be quiet and there's a toilet block.

Go to the Vic roads site for a rest stop map. After Bendigo the road isn't that noise and there is normally a toilet and a covered picnic table. No mucking around looking. Pull up, have a tinnie go to bed.

There is a free camp site on the Bendigo side of Huntly that is on the main road but shouldn't be too noisy, especially if you get up in the back corner. Pretty sure there is a toilet and there might even be a travelling pizza van there.

That's why I go via Shep. Better roads, less roos. It's also slightly shorter in km.

On my usual Horsham->Canberra drive, via Rushworth, etc is 8:57 and 846km and via Shep is 10 minutes longer 9:06 and 845km.

Shepparton Mooroopna is 18km of speed restricition mainly 80 but 60 and 50 kmph as well as around 20 traffic lights

The delay was really minimal when I went through last Friday, no stopping, just reduced speed limit. Less than the delays on the Hume in NSW.

I'll get another look at it on Monday too.
