I'm going to be around Warrnambool- Portland over Christmas. I'm hoping to do some climbing, but there will be a six year old with the group who would love to be included. It looks as though there's a couple of short, low-grade climbs at Cape Bridgewater (https://www.thecrag.com/climbing/australia/victoria/south-west/area/817928940) but they seem very close to the ocean and may not be safe or suitable for children. Has anyone been to this area or can comment? Alternatively, are there any other child-friendly crags you'd recommend in the Warrnambool- Port Fairy area? Any thoughts appreciated- thanks!

If the Cape Bridgy stuff you mentioned is near the blow holes then not at all good for young children. Even on the calmest days an occasional large swell can break over the shelf. We climb there with one eye on the ocean at all times.
There is some bouldering at Murrells beach. The climbing area is not usually suitable for swimming but the climbing is well away from the wave action. Will PM you some details.

My suggestion is decide whether you are serious about going climbing. If the answer is yes then do a day trip to the Grampians. The Mountain Lion would be ideal for kids.

Thanks; that answers my question. I thought the kid-friendly grades were too good to be true!

I just checked out The Mountain Lion on The Crag, and it looks quite interesting. It might be a bit far for this trip (it's Christmas, and I'm not sure anyone's quite *that* enthusiastic) but it's good to know about- thanks for drawing it to my attention.
