But wouldn't it be nice not to start fires where people boulder?

This is pretty bad, but the worst part is that they've got a fire going at the base of the crag.
You can bet your bippy (for those less than half a century in age, that's an Rowan and Martin expression) that all the trendy Facebookers out there are going to be sitting cross-legged at the base of the Organ Pipes, lighting fires and rolling unbaked oat rolls. I guess if you're climbing in the area you won't need to bring your own food ...

Thats what I was talking about. That's really poor form imo. That dude reckons he's been climbing for 15 years, so you would assume that he knows what the deal is at araps with fires etc.

Saw this yesterday and also read the FB comments. There was a post noting about it being bad form and the response was that it was at a private campground. I can't see that post this morning but it could be my internet reception playing up. I will drop them a line to query but also to explain the reasons why we are working on campfire knowledge at places like Araps and the Grampians and the more recent issues with them at the base of climbs and caves etc. Even if it was filmed at a private campground, it gives the impression that it is at Araps. It's great to see climbers calling out these things. The best education comes from ourselves as climbers. Cheers Tracey

Douchey. Ironic that they are "organic." Seems like something the IG wankers would be all over.

I think the real irony is that they are making "No cook oat bars" but they have a fire for... well I'm not sure why there's a fire.

I couldn't believe this was actually serious - I could barely stop laughing. I haven't been able to place the fire, but it looks like Grampians rock? Maybe they were on private land. It's important to drive for an hour after climbing to somewhere where you can have a fire in order to make raw oat bars, ingredients all out in little dishes prepared earlier ... The video does imply they are still at araps, where it would be blatantly illegal to have a fire out of season, out of designated fire pits and with wood collected on site. Good of them to broadcast evidence to the world.

All the FB comments read like employees trying to sound "natural"
"Wow, they look great, I'm going to buy them now"

Sad there weren't more detractors, though I noticed a few chockstoners laid the boot in.. Well done.

They make the point twice that it was on private land at a campsite "near Arapiles".

I prefer my organic oatmeal cookies lightly toasted too, but I do mine on a Jetboil while at hanging belays.

Please comment on their FB post as to how inappropriate it is till they remove it.

This really is not a good example to be setting!

Post should have been in climbing media watch thread because it's commercial wank, whoring on climbing.

>but they have a fire for... well I'm not sure why there's a fire.
ajf, it's a small smokey one to keep away the mozzies that have been voracious lately. Too bad it didn't also keep away the dog at the crag, at about 2 mins into the vid.

Seems they got the message though..

Latest comment..

Update: There has been some concern about the campfire in this video. Organic Care would like to confirm the fire was not shot at Mt Arapiles but at a private campground nearby with the land owners permission.

It is our desire to inform anyone unaware to please not light fires near rock climbing sights like this as they can become a hazard to climbers and the environment.

We understand how this video did not make this difference in location clear and want to extend our apologies to anyone who was concerned including the Victorian rock climbing community. Preservation of nature is one of our core priorities and it is of paramount importance to us to lead by example.

Please be sure to always check fire safety whenever you're in one of our many gorgeous national parks.

A reply from Organic Care:
Hi Andrew, following up from our discussion we have been shocked to realise the fire in our video was in fact shot at Venus Baths and not on a private campground as we previously stated.

This error was made due to internal miscommunications regarding the 20+ locations around Victoria we shot our videos at during October.

Our General Manager has contacted The Grampians National Park and apologised profusely for this. They have accepted our apology and we hope you can too.

King regards,
Organic Care team.

>Just out of curiosity the Rock that is behind you looks identical to the one at Venus Baths see photo attached. I've circled the corner you can see in the right of the photo of them in front of their fire. So you are not on private land you are in fact in the park. And you are just bullshitting and trying to get yourself out of the shit! Very disappointing! And not following you're our philosophy.

I would've circled the horizontal band of two parallel cracks with the central vertical in it too.

I bet a quick call to Parks would reveal that they have made no such contact to apologise either........
