Ah well.
We didn't make the shortlist so no prizes here.
Never mind.
Climbing-related authors don't write for accolades or for money. Well I certainly didn't.
Hard luck Steve Bell (we should do beers), 'Virgin on Insanity' has only had the highest praise. Doug Scott's 'Up and About' and my own little 'Punk' too.
Have been literally bombarded with emails of disbelief from around the globe regarding this year's shortlist and the 'politics' behind the whole thing. Must say, 'The Bond' by Simon McCartney looks riveting though and I've ordered my copy to read after Steve's 'Virgin' and Doug's 'U&A'
Some of the others have already been panned in reviews and internet threads so what's going on?
Am not bitter. Honest. But I was led to believe the three grand was for Literary Merit, not soloing ability or producing a bit of kit that somebody else invented. I say that with No disrespect to AH who I've had the pleasure to meet and is adorable and the Top Man or MV either.
G'night, nanna nap time.
A.

Is there a category for being boring and repetitive? We might have a winner

Going out on a limb here but if the 'boring & repetitive' comment is directed at me my retort is f*ck off tw*t and do better yourself.
End of.
G'night.

Andy, I just read your post.
Commiserations to us both, and to Doug Scott too. Like you I've had a lot of messages expressing surprise that my book didn't make the BT short list. If it's any consolation Ed Douglas (arguably the best of contemporary climbing scribes) says he's baffled by the last few BT winners. Who knows how it all works, but at the end of the day there were 35 entries, meaning there had to be 30 disappointed authors.
The way I see it is that there are 35 winners. We've all written a book, which is a great achievement in itself. Winning a prize would certainly be a bonus, but it's far from the reason why we wrote them in the first place. Our efforts will long out-live this year's short list selection.
