Hi I live in Wagga Wagga. A mate and I would really like to get into rock climbing. We were wondering if there is a group of people that go out some weekends that we could tag along with.

Being a small(ish) country town there won't be too many people around here that will be near you. If you get lucky then you might be able to meet/persuade some local climbers. Otherwise you are on your own!

If you want to learn climbing then you can learn it from professional guides in the Blue Mountains. It will cost more but it is the best option if you can't find locals to help you. Once you learn the basics of gear placement and setting up top ropes you will have a start on which you can build upon.

Your closest rockclimbing area is pretty nearby. This is better closer than many of us city folk have.

Further afield you have Nowra, Blue Mountains and Mt Buffalo all within a few hours drive. All have great climbing.

It's a piece of crap, only a better local than the city folk because Melbourne is a godforsaken barren wasteland where no serious climber would choose to live.

A sensible daytrip option, if you're psyched to drive the extra 2.5hrs each way past all the awesome Canberra climbing. But hey, what would a Werribee-loving Melbournite know?

Wagga Wagga ranked at 27 in 2013 and isn't a small place by Aussie standards.

Shanghai in China though, has the equivalent of Aussies entire population of 23 million in just that city alone.

Like climbing, you get to choose your standard -
Bouldering or multipitch depending on who you dredge up locally.
Then again, if they want to konka kerchoo with simes they could be waiting for a while.
