Flippin' AFL and Dan Andrews' public holiday...

Grrr. Both make my blood boil.
Is it only me, seriously?
Honestly, I've really tried over the past twenty two years to become an honorary Victorian but I loathe and detest AFL. And no, I'm not sorry declaring that!
As for today's 'suck up for votes' pre-election 'promise', how come he didn't back-flip when business - the life blood of our economy - barked "No Dan?".
Ah well, I for one shall be working hard tomorrow to 'do my bit' and ensure all's in place for my construction site crew's return to work on Tuesday - after their RDO.
Hmm. 'Pollitt-icking'. Whinging Pom? 'Eff off back to Blighty then...' I hear... but do wonder whether anyone else in Chockstone-world has plans to avoid the bleedin' Griiiind Foynul'?
Is there a cafe or bar somewhere where 'footy's' banned all day? Do a roaring trade if there was...
Good (grumble) night.
Oh, and 'Go the Bulldogs'.
AP.

Well, we have been beaten with the grumpy stick today Andy have we not ?
AFL is the very breath of life, it's what makes Melbourne the most liveable city, the pageantry, the roar of the 95,000 rabid pie throwing drunks willing their team on to victory, the weeping uncontrollably when the goalposts come down at the local footy oval,

Perth should be quiet this weekend, but there again, it always is.....

I feel your pain Andy, AFL is the curling of Australian sport. A boring snoozefest that requires an almost fatal dose of alcohol to enjoy, which is only sustained through a cult like following amongst the media and politicians.

Yes well Mr Grib.
T'was indeed your good self who cajoled me into a match at the hallowed 'G' back in 1990. The roof of my mouth still smarts at that flippin' hot pie that took all the skin off, the 'piss' was warm, light and in a plastic cup. 'Our' team lost!
Perth? Not another bankloan for the flight cost...

Rawpowa!.
RESPECT. Yes. Grog could just be the answer - as we watch those Canadian 'scrubbers' doing their best ahead of a slip-sliding 'thing'... Oh Puck indeed!

Oi'll be in in the Crabtree pub in Fulham on the Thames watching the wallabies flog the poms out of the World Cup if that is more to your liking.

Grumpy poms especially welcome. We've got a table out back from 12. Kids welcome too.

Oh to avoid misunderstanding we will not flog any children/kiddies that come along.

We will only flog adult poms.

I suppose cricket's out of the question then ?

Nope I don't sadly but yes you did. With Chris Baxter's brother (Claude?).
Thought you were going bush the day like?
Nati at Easter? Tim's heading down - we have a cabin at the pub again.
Bring on them goats - the 'best fest in the west'.

So you've been handed an extra public holiday, you could go climbing, bicycling, lie in bed... But you decided to work?
I don't care about Jesus. But I happily accept all the holidays he's provided... Labour day holiday has always seemed oxymoronic, but why not! Queens birthday? Let them eat cake!

Hmmm, cake. I like cake martym.
Have also achieved more in two hours p&q than eight in an office full of 'chattering' women - and that LOUD colleague 'A. Mul' !
Now, where are my bicycle clips...?

Just for the record, the Hawthorn Hawks beat the Perth West Coast Ego's by a lot of points and cemented their place in the anals of the code.

I knew you'd be pleased, only 364 days to the next one......

Honestly, I do not understand people's opposition to this holiday. It was a very clear (if little-noticed) election commitment that the ALP took to the last election. If they'd broken it, people would be be screaming blue murder about broken promises. In any case, all it does it replace the Show Day public holiday that Kennett abolished.

I totally agree with you about AFL, though.

Not really. A football match is usually considered to involve two teams showing up...

I love how one of those pommy-import betting agencies has a name that simply re-arranged becomes
BrokeLads . There's a hint there. You wonder why anyone would bet with them.
