Hey guys, A few people at my work, ask if we run rock climbing competitions, and work given me the okay to start one up. But not 100% sure on what i have to do.

Any advice?

Here is my non-expert 'advice':

1. Start small
2. Focus on fun
3. Put on a BBQ
4. Think about public liability and legal considerations
5. Chat to the guys at Lactic Factory
6. Plan for success - canvas for competitors before you commit
7. Have a celebrity climber act as MC - I strongly recommend Simey
8. Get your local rag and radio on board
9. Involve the kiddies (I hate them but it gets the breeders on board)

Good luck!

1. Find some real rocks.
2. Find sponsors to pay for any prizes.
3. Try and climb them with a bunch of others (preferably friends).
4. Award prizes according to height gained.
5. In the event of a tie for height, timing the ascent is one way of picking a winner.
6. Having a simey type will help promote the event, but might be a bit much pressure for any female competitors to have to put up with?

We as in your workplace? You and the Shepparton crowd? "We" as in the chockstoners?

Start a what? An international festival held over a weekend with prizes and BBQs or a Friday night shindig at the local gym?

Wow they picked the right person!

Dont have to be quite harsh there.

I work at a place with a rockclimbing area.... around around every shift. i get atleast 2 (costumers) people asking if we run competitions.
I am the only staff member that looks after the wall, (eg tigthen the rocks, wash the rocks, do maintenance) and i dont think anyone else would be able to do a rock climbing comp with out asking questions.

Are you close to any of the big climbing gym's, if so pay them a visit and ask questions and I encourage you to go ahead and do it as it sounds like you have a few people interested. A while back a buddy and fellow climber held a comp for local climbers on his woody. We formed 2 teams of 5, each person set two routes, points awarded according to how successful we were on each climb with awards for best route, best flash, best fall etc. It was a blast. Finished with a barbie and presentation. Uncarved block sponsored the comp and sent us a collection of gear for prizes, have a talk to them as well. Good luck.

Go for it Natalie!. Maybe watch an event at one of the city gyms to get ideas. Categories for the various age groups makes sense. Might be worth getting in someone who does route setting to get some great competition routes that get progressively harder the higher up you go. That's why you should get Simey in to be the guest MC, i've heard he can also arrange routes with great climaxes.
People will come back and frequent your gym to train to win their category.
Those pesky Albury climbers might come down and think they'll clean up, but they are weak as.
