I keep rough notes on new routes and rebolting .
Since 2008 (skipping a few years) I've placed over 1600 Ubolts (about half rebolting), over 300 carrots (mostly in the Grose), and driven over 15000 km specifically to go bolting (as opposed to bolting on a climbing day).
If a glued in Ubolt is ~$2 and petrol is about $1 per 10 km (12 km/L and $1.20 per L), I'm still paying twice as much for Ubolts than for driving.
Assuming a (slow) speed of making 30 Ubolts/hour, and driving at an average of 80 kph, I've spent more than 50 hours making ubolts, and almost 4 times as much driving to go bolting.
Maybe I should have spent the time training instead?

Meh, you were seriously past your prime by '08 anyway. Would 10000hrs of training and an inevitable slow decline have been at all satisfying? I'm incredibly appreciative of all the crag work you did instead.

even adding up all the driving to go climbing starts to make buying in blackheath in the 80s look like a smart option. I'm guessing most serious climbing would do 10-20k per year. Plus flights OS

trad is cheaper
$3.30 per u bolt = $66 per pitch vs $3.99 for a new pair of undies, bargain

A bio from Mikl on the SGS years (including Carrigan) would be interesting...
