Poo photoessays for Simey

Fascinating photo essay Wendy. If that is the best you could come up with at the end of the busy climbing season at Arapiles, then I think it simply shows what an insignificant issue this is.

I think you have simply buried your head in the sand much better than most people bury their poo Simey. Whilst they may not be steaming piles of poo, they are clear evidence of people toileting indiscriminately. Unless you thing they just drop loo paper every where as decoration? It really doesn't bother you at all that I found all of that in about a minute spread over 4 locations whilst barely leaving the path? So you could go about x 50 to cover all of Araps then add a bit more for a proper look around. And a bit more still to cover the edge of the rest of the camping areas. And a bit more for a few on the cliff itself. Which easily means 1000s across the crag. If I really wanted to come up with "the best" I could have devoted some time to searching out a nice fresh chunky specimen for you, but actually all I could be f---ed doing was grabbing my phone and snapping what I was basically about to trip over anyway.

DD I'm not sure you quite understand how pregnancy works; it's not poo that makes babies. I'm afraid you've been doing it wrong all these years. As some have pointed out, if only you had been educated in Europe you would know better - but likely still behave the same if certain German films are any indication.

I'm going to regret saying this, but it is the toilet paper that really bothers me. If a kangaroo sh1ts in the bush, does anyone on chockstone make a sound? Before we get into a debate about the degrees of sh!ttiness of various forms of sh!t, I acknowledge that human sh!t is sh!ttier and should be buried.

However, i think toilet paper is a bigger problem. I'm sorry to say Wendy, but this is largely due to women. I'm sure a seasoned outdoor lady like yourself takes your rubbish with you after you pee, but many girls don't. Before anyone suggests I conduct a field survey, I would like to caveat this comment by saying it is based on casual observation of a few sheets of paper spread around most crags and the fact that the only poo i could see in Wendy's photos was from animals.

What propaganda have you been watching bro?
You obviously haven't seen some of the dogs that simey has been seen with.

I think you have a point, a lot looks like wee wipes, but some did look like they had been shit, but that the poo had degraded quicker than the paper. We had also had a fair bit of rain (for us) in the preceding week so maybe that helped the shit wash away? And I'm pretty sure the tampon came from a woman!

For the women of the outdoor world, I have a few suggestions (that I would have thought were obvious, but apparently not):

For wee:

shake and wait a moment to dry instead of wiping - kinda like guys do really!

where a light pad in your pants if you are bothered by a few drips of urine (dispose of in a bin at end of day not at crag!!!).

if you have to wipe, bury thoroughly or carry a snap lock bag to carry paper out in.

I recommend plan A as it doesn't involve any extra resources at all.

For periods:

Get a menstrual cup. http://www.fleurcup.com/en (you'll find cheap copies from china on ebay as well) These things are great. Empty into a hole, cover, reinsert.

If you have to use disposable sanitary products, bring a snap lock bag and carry them out. Don't bury them. They take ages to degrade and many have plastics in them anyway. In the meanwhile, consider the contribution of sanitary products to landfill and the extensive use of resources in their production, not to mention the dent in your finances from them (yes, I have a bee in my bonnet about them as well!)

You forgot wet wipes. These things are the devil. They take forever to break down. If you use them, bag them and carry them out.

Suddenly plain paper seems far more appealing.

A lovely NZ lady once told me she was "off to shake the wit littuce". That had me in stitches.
