The hold has been pretty exactly 10mm, horizontal, slightly positive, for 3 fingers. I remember it very well :-).

As far I know, it broke already during a very early ascent from an english climber. He searched for the hold on bottom of the wall, found it and glued it back on. From that moment on, this english climber was able to climb it and many ascents have been done, probably because the hold has been 1-2 mm bigger from the glue.

Obviously the hold broke again and got bigger again...

Thanks, Gerhard, for bringing this up on this post. I don't know what to do. I can only tell you the size of the original, natural hold. Natural: I broke the top part of the small flake during the first try. Thats it.

The most likely person to have shots from above when Martin was originally trying the route is Kim Carrigan. I vaguely recall him hanging just out of shot when I took some pics from up the hill back in Jan.85.

Mazda Capella actually. I came across an old photo with it in the background while cleaning out a cupboard today and I'll never know how the passenger side front door stayed on, the hinges were only held in place by rust!
Anyway, back to the topic at hand..........
