I'm 33.

I definitely chose beer over climbing grades ;)

I'll chip in, even though it's mostly been said already.

You'll get to Arapiles, spend a few days and wonder why you'd ever want to leave the place. Which is why there's a bunch of ex-climbers still living in Natimuk, posting on this forum and reminiscing about the ol' times.

You'll stay another week or so, ticking classics at those grades without getting bored until you decide you'd better see something else while you're here. You'll go over to the Grampians, climb Heretic and Debutante at Rosea, and marvel at how damn good 120m of near-vertical sandstone can be.

You'll get curious about Moonarie but realise it's another 2 days driving and a long walk-in for something similar to what you can find locally. You'll want to see Taipan wall even though there's nothing on it you can get up, so you'll walk into Stapylton and climb Threadneedle (10) or something like that, which will be totally enjoyable and fun at the grade.

You'll decide there must be more to see outside Victoria, so you'll drive back to Melbourne, take the ferry to Tasmania and spend a few days at Freycinet/Whitewater wall.

You'll realise the holiday isn't just about climbing, and either bum around Tasmania a bit more, enjoying the beer, hiking or whatever, or you'll decide it's too frickin' cold and windy and fly up to, oh Noosa or Townsville or Cairns for some warm sun, sand and crocodiles (if you go much north of Townsville).

No matter what you'll have a great and memorable holiday.
Good luck

I did wonder a little about that - it seems unlikely to have rooted your tendons on 15s. Wyn, 15 is S/VS or french 5b or thereabouts.

But even if it was 23-25, I wouldn't change my general suggestion. It would increase the options in the Gramps though. I've done enough climbing trips to have concluded that I prefer spending more time in good spots than rushing around here or there trying to fit more in. A month just isn't very long (start preparing a tick list, correspond it to days, add some rest days and see how quickly a few weeks fills up!) and there's no chance of getting bored of the climbing without leaving Victoria. Although if you do rush over to Tassie (and Tassie options do get better if you climb harder), you can then find out for yourself that the climbing's overrated, and the weather just as good as north wales :)

People climb for different reasons..not everything is about high numbers...I've never really cracked 20 (except on a few low gravity days) but I have been climbing for over 20 years so must be doing something that I enjoy (didn't realise there were Australian standards to aspire too)...and I do like a few beers as well...speaking of which its beer o'clock.

It's certainly not 39 here today! Bloody freezing weather again. And I have a cold, hence why I'm on the couch, bored and posting here. Fingers crossed I'll be up for climbing tomorrow when temps might actually breach 20 degrees.

And Rod, of course I agree climbing is not all about grades, I was so excited just to be on araps grade 10s last year after the shoulder surgery - but they are a very useful guide as to crags that are worth going to! And sub 15 is pretty limiting almost anywhere but Arapiles.

Did anyone here do Debutante when 15 was their limit? Or Mixed Climb when only just climbing 12? It would be a hell of a good effort and a massive step up from say D Minor or Horn Piece.

Thanks for all your replies, there's a lot of useful ideas coming out now. No I'm not a particularly good climber but with just over 2 years experience I wouldn't expect to be either.
I Done my arms in top roping some harder sports routes after some time of and didn't recover properly before doing the same again later on in the week(f6c+ Which according to the silly chart almost brings me up to my age if you really want to get down to grades but I'm quite happy just having a good time if I'm honest.

Yeah Tassie is defo on the cards.

Thanks for all your answers

Wyn
