So I heard the other day that apparently 50 or so holds were stollen off the Burnley wall. With the new reset apparently the bolts on the holds were'nt double nutted to avoid theft. Wonder if this was deliberately done due to the new holds that were installed... Anybody have any more news on this??

Some work is getting done on the weekend.

From Mr Burnley himself below -

will be at Burnley 9:30 - 1pm Saturday, and Sunday afternoon from about 1pm.
If anyone is available to help please come along.

Saturday: wall 1, repair routes (including adding big green footers), remove panels, do screws for t nuts and lock nut bolts.

Sunday: any wall 1 not done, wall 3 routes repair, lock nut and secure volumes.

Bring impact drivers/drills and lots of batteries...

It happened sat night, I was there early sunday morning with a few others. There were still a bunch of loose loose holds hanging off the wall. My estimate was more like 25-30 holds... but that was just a guess.

Pretty shit act from some pretty effin selfish losers.

Just teenagers doing the teenager thing, dude. Chill out. If you could actually be bothered trying to track them down, I'd start at the climbing gyms and ask if there are any crews of 14-18yr old boys who've been talking up building a woody.

Or a pissed off regular fkd off with the recent changes that turned the place from a half decent place to train for endurance and power/bouldering (if you aren’t so brainded as to not being able to invent your own NON COLOUR – CODED problems) into something that….you guessed it….its been turned into a place to cater for the BRAINDED among us who are incapable of inventing their own non colour coded problems.

So who is Mr Burnley??

Actually, I didn't know about the whole deal with the wall being reset to shanker mode. Maybe you guys should look around and see if there are any bitter old has-been climbers who live quite locally, are regulars at Burnley, are pissed about the changes, and might have put a board up in their backyard as a response?

I think we ought to blame the electors of Indi for this . Sophie 's 2 policies (according to the tv ads) were to stop the boats and install CCTV cameras to stop crime . Boat people and street crime aren't much of a problem in Wodonga and Wang , but hey the Yarra is right next door to burnley and CCTV would certainly nail those suspicious characters . Well Sophie may have moved on , but Tony and the boys (plus Julie ) are there, and he did promise to keep all his (coalition ) promises .

So we're looking for a braindead endurance freak with good colour vision and limited imagination - who happens to be building a 15m traversing wall in his back yard. Shouldn't be too hard to find the culprit.

... Another point worth being on the lookout for.
If the perps responsible stole only same-coloured holds (assumed information from stugang's post), they might have favoured a particular brand?

From Burnley's facebook page:

Burnley News: Holds have been stolen.
Last week up to 60 holds where stolen from the walls. This is very unfortunate as it really puts a stain on the climbing community. This is a free wall for anyone to climb on and stealing from it is incredibly selfish.
The image attached indicates which holds have been taken and we ask people to keep an eye out for them (please share this post). The holds are somewhat specific and could be destined for a woodie somewhere.
We are now taking additional action to secure every hold on the walls to ensure this will not happen again.

and a close up of the holds:

Sadly I think this theft will make resets less frequent. Wall 1 in particular is a PITA if you have to lock nut everything as you can't get behind the panels after setting, you have to bring the wall down, lock nut and then rehang it. Also makes it problematic to repair spinners and such like.

However, if people are going to steal the holds, it has to be done.

One other option is to rebuild the walls with a void behind and an access door at the end. I'm sure a chocky engineer could do the comps for some stand of brackets. I'll bring the generator and welder. Just need some steel RHS and a security door.
What do you think?

Was there Friday night with Tegan. First time in a while. Disappointing gear was nicked. Reckon they will turn up on eBay in a few weeks or a landscaper has a years supply for kids playgrounds.

Maybe installing some kind of tamper proof bolt could be an option,e.g. Tamper proof Torx, eye drive, triwing, or those triangle playground bolts. Might be difficult getting them in imperial thread though

I just read this on FB - this is very disappointing - the amount of work that people have put into Burnley over the years has been phenomenal - never ceases to amaze me that there are people out there who consider stealing an acceptable thing to do especially something designed to be free for so many other to enjoy. Hope the climbing gods punish those who have stolen the holds!

p.s. though all the old holds had bolts that could only be unscrewed from the inside of the walls? was this changed?
