The beautiful mystery of the Munter hitch, this is also where we did our obligatory 1m classic abseil of fthe table onto the mat.

some people watching the assisted haul, more magic! (Macca in the background trying to untangle his beard from a prussic) About 12 people ended up doing a haul

yeah it would have been great to have some more time but I completely understand the constraints, everyone was appreciative for the time that you gave up to run the course.

With the accompanying notes it is easy to practice all of this at home in the same way we practiced in the gym so I think that is okay. After reading the notes it would be good to practice passing a knot on abseil, especially seeing the amount of mistakes made threading sport anchors.

We noticed that many people weren't confident tieing the figure 8 even, and you should be able to do a few of these impoortant knots in the dark (hence our problems demonstrating the Munter hitch, we can't tie it slow).

Practicing somewhere close to the ground is essential.

Good idea Mikl, saw a newb standing alot a pinnacle 20m off the ground not clipped in yelling to his mate, "what do I do know". He got a very polite "please clip in" from me, before I explained the safe non drop rope process of threading rings to him from nearby.

yes, this is always a problem as it's typically the newb who's last up and has the least experience.

when i was a newb (still am, i think) my climbing mates did this a few times:

experienced climber leads a climb, lowers off

experienced climber 2 lead another very close climb - makes them sefl safe at the anchors

newb climber seconds original climb and goes through the previously practiced on the ground method under supervision.

once id done this a few times and was confident i was doing the right thing the experienced climber could let me clean also feeling confident

doing it on the ground is no substitue for doing it when you are tired and in an exposed situation
