More prosaically, they're probably collision protection for the bridge, though the height may be more due to edifice complex than engineering requirements.

There's access from the base, with a ladder, and from the roadway too though it's about 3m across the void. The high angle rescue guys had a drill there not too long ago and said the views were pretty amazing.

Not going to happen legally... I'd suggest just going to one of good indoor walls if you want to climb on plastic.

Glue up was attempted under Burke rd south side of the Eastern and was quickly stopped when locals called the police and wanted to confiscate their gear.

Better wall IMO would be the overhanging pillars where the Eastern fwy crosses Merri Creek. But far to visible to passing traffic, so would expect the police to be around quickly there too.

The ones down near Dight's falls? I always looked at those when I was running past and thought they'd be awesome to climb on, other than lowering off into the middle off Merri Creek.

I don't get it, why are you guys fantasising about this weird shit? They're not going to let you bolt holds and bolts all over bridge pylons. Even if they did, it'd be a huge admin hassle and they'd charge you through the arse to climb on it. Is this Kalugan dude trying to set it up as a business venture?

Anyone who flies from australia to europe and wastes a day climbing plastic on a dam wall (instead of climbing one of the 1000's of excellent multipitch rock routes available over there) is a fuching idiot!

I have climbed many multipitch rock routes. I have climbed no dam walls. If I go to Switzerland, I'd like to do both.

In the early 90's a couple of naughty adelaidian's got busted and taken to court for adding a climb to the Sturt river gorge dam wall. The few that did the routes before they got taken down confirmed the three star ratings, unfortunately they didn't survive long enough to make it into any guidebooks.

then the hole got discovered which is a much nicer texture for chipping.

A heigh of ZERO metres above the water would provide collision protection. These things are pure architect wank.
