What people don't know about climbing

When I speak with non-climbers, they always seem amazed and have preconceived notions about climbing.

Would be great to have a list of "What you don't know about climbing" made into a poster for my living room.

What would you put on your poster?

Climbing is safer than driving a car is the first one that comes to people's mind.

Climber's are not adrenaline junkies.

Climbing doesn't require big muscles.

not an extreme sport.

You haven't seen my driving (or my muscles). I agree with the adrenalin thing, personally am always trying to avoid adrenalin to keep my head together.

Being a climber doesn't make you special

Free climbing doesn't mean solo climbing

Gloves don't help

Using chalk is all in the mind

Keeping the rope tight makes it easier to cut

I think what he means is "I don't sweat, or climb in the heat, or climb anything particularly hard - therefore chalk is useless for everyone."

On topic:
Angle of the climb does not necessarily mean difficulty, ie a roof can be easier than a slab depending on other things.

Being tall must make it so easy.

*Like having 8ft legs isn't a hinderance sometimes.

EDIT - What they fail to understand is that it is my super human strength and dexterity that really makes it easy for me.

Shouldn't it be the harder you climb... the hotter your girlfriend ?

(Although a few guys on this site have hot girlfriends and don't climb hard).

You'll have to show me how that's done Miguel. I'm thinking it might require some divine help though unfortunately I'm an atheist and so I'm unlikely to come by any miracles.
