Woohoo Tracey! I like good news, and surprises; does your news have anything to do with possibly re-opening the old rifle range?

I know i am a bit behind on this post but isn't the problem that a lot of people aren't paying any fee no matter what it is. Some climbers have sense of entitlement and that everything should be free and somebody should else pay for it. So i guess a price that is satisfactory to all parties will be decided upon and nobody will pay it. status quo achieved.

Hi All,

NEW FEE STRUCTURE: Individual User pay basis - $4.00 per person, per night
As of 1st November, 2012

Well just in time for the Cup weekend (well for those of us who are going to drag it out into one :).

Thanks to everyone once again who jumped in and put their feelings about the new fee structure at the campground out there and onto paper. After some discussions with PV, the good news is that it has all been taken on board and the fee structure will return to a pay by individual user basis. There has been a fee increase per person, in line with the yearly camp fee increase as of 1 November, but considering that Araps hasn't had any camp fee increases since 1999 - unlike other campgrounds - I think it's a fair call. The new price is $4.00 per person per night. Still a pretty cheap camping option I think. Thanks also, to the forward thinking people at PV who have been working hard and quickly on this. It's great to see that a blanket approach hasn't been taken and the conditions and demographic of Araps have been considered. New signs are planned to be in place by the weekend explaining the fee structure.
Happy camping.

Cheers,
Tracey

Fantastic! Great work Tracey.

While they're at it why don't they place more signs and maybe a second box at the exit. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has forgotten at the end of a busy weekend. (I try to pay double next time.)

$4 per night is still reasonable!

A win for a workable solution. Who'd have thought whining on chockstone could have a positive outcome?

Out of curiosity - what was the fee pre-1999? $1.50?

$28 per week is still the best rental in Australia!
Cheers to PV & Access T

Really good news. So cheap it's almost a pity that I live only 10 km away.

That's great news. Just goes to show what a few emails and a dedicated person such as Tracy can achieve!

It might even be a good idea for some to email again to thank PV for their willingness to consult with climbers and formulate a new and very reasonable fee structure.

You've all fallen for the classic "bait and switch", where the fee increase is being heralded as a win.

Sucked in!

Now that we've got the issue at hand resolved, I'm very interested to understand how such a process failure occurred and what measures are being put in place to stop it happening in future.

What is the backstory behind the zero-consultation implementation of the new $15/night fee structure?

Who was responsible for the decision inside Parks Victoria?

Have they acknowledged their mistake?

What will be done to stop similar mistakes in future?

-Adam.
