Perma-Ledge - taking things too far?

I bet 99% of climbers (the only people who would ever go to the Goldmine) would walk under the overhanging choss cave and never even think to look up to see the permaledge which gives access to glorious rock on the headwall.

I think it is genius, and at the end of the day can easily be hauled up to the top of the cliff when all is said and done and not even climbers want to go there. It provides access (just in a slightly different way to the rungs/track/etc) to a handful of climbs, a number of which begin by traversing straightaway meaning that the belay/catch for a belayer hanging in space would be unpleasant.

It is a far less obtrusive than the stepped logs in the blueys which perform a similar function.

The comparison to Skink's semi-hanging belay could not be more inappropriate.

... or effective as a troll for a response!
Heh, heh, heh.

As a one off I can see a degree of benefit in it, but overall it still seems like litter to me.

I suppose it goes with sport climbing softness as compared to trad hanging belay climbing...
Where is a hard Tasmanian climber when we need one, to come and show the Newsouthwelshmen how to do it?
;-)

If it was a hanging belay why would it be any different?

More bolts?

Less bolts?

"Give me Convenience or give me Death"

It's sport climbing. Who gives a toss?

It won't be in the next issue of "The Alpinist".

Now everyone has longer ropes you can step down at the end of the traverse and belay from the pin. Problem solved.

FYI. Its very hard to make good coffee in a hanging belay. The AreoPress works much better on the ledge...

Only koala's (park authorities), some old fart tradsters, and maybe born again boulderers!

The bumping of this thread highlights how long the pic of the "week" has been up (almost 3 months).

Is this because there hasn't been any good new submissions since August?

Also, how new do the pics need to be? I've got a couple of interesting ones in the archive I could dig out.

I have emailed in pics on two occasions - the second I made sure they were already sized to appropriate dimensions. I figure it's because the dude who deals with that stuff (on his own time) was to busy to deal with them.

It seems that 'Mike' (Site Author), doesn't log on much these days, but emailing him the pic/s would get a response.
'nmonteith' is another who may be able to upload pics to that area (?), and he has been overseas lately.
