Honnold rope-soloed it a couple of weeks ago during a 24-hour link up of the "triple" (being Mt Watkins, the NW face of Half Dome and The Nose - 70+ pitches). He did it at night, in 6 hours, mostly free except for some short sections of aid. At that rate the rope would not have been used for most of the time. The Nose has never been free-soloed in its entirety. |

It has been soloed, but I suspect you were asking if it has been free-soloed. The answer to that question is no, it was reported at one time that Honnold was considering it but there is no actual evidence of that. | |||||

Has Honnold actually FREE climbed it WITH a rope? Not many have from my understanding. From videos of Lynn doing it I'd be pretty sure no one would be good enough to free solo grade 31/32 slipepry pin scarred sketchy feet underclings 700m up a wall. | |||||

I wouldn't expect that the Nose will be the first route to be done that way. Actually, I think its only been free climbed by 3 people! Insecure gr 31ish crux pitch which is super selective for tiny fingered tiny climbers (have there been any non-midget free ascents?) |

I doubt that, given that the Nose has had only one other continuous free repeat (by Tommy Caldwell). The idea that someone would consider free-soloing it in its entirety is a joke. |

Widely considered to be a "non-proper el cap route" like the east buttress. Still an amazing solo, and looks like a fantastic route. | |||||

Then along came Dean Potter and now this Honnold lad. And who though that Usain Bolt could run 9.59 s in the 100 meter sprint in 2009. According to a bunch of maths nerds 9.59 s over 100 m would not be possible until about 2060. Some people actually had the audacity to tell people like Kim Carrigan that a particular route "would never go" Although knocking another 24 mins off the current Nose record seems improbable.......... |

This new record beats the old one by 13 minutes. I reckon the people with no idea have a better understanding of 2 hours being possible. |
