Arapiles new toilets vandalised
ZERO

The new toilets in The Gums were vandalised within 48 hours of being installed.
All the door locks were smashed and bowls filled with full dunny rolls.
The Ranger had to spend half a day cleaning them.
This sort of behaviour is not putting climbers in a good light with park management.

If anyone knows anything about it they should report it to PV on 131963.
Not a good start to Easter hols.

I am completely at a loss for why someone thought this was a good idea.

Of all crimes vandelism is the one I just can't understand, and it makes me the most angry. No one benefits!

I completely agree with everyone so far. Completely. It is a disgrace that parks is vandalizing the park with those horrible new dunnys. They should instead spend the money on petrol for the rangers so they can drive far far away.

Do these new toilets replaces the stinking pit toilets?

Yep, a little blurb about it in Traceys Argus column last month. I think she posted something here as well.

Climbers responsible? Highly unlikely. More like teenagers from Nati or Horsham.

Same as at Sugarloaf in the cathedrals someone took an axe to the toilet within a couple of weeks of opening. Parks is on a super tight budget at the moment, a repair might be a while away. Well done to the person / idiot who has ruined it for the rest of us.

Hopefully not climbers but it can't be discounted unless the culprits are identified. The complete idiot population isn't confined to local teenagers.

You're hardly going to drive all the way down there to go climbing, camp, use the dunnies, then trash 'em on the way out just for laughs.

Maybe it was a disgruntled (non-climbing) girlfriend who'd been dragged there against her will, then abandoned in camp while the boys went redpointing?

Unlikely to be locals, and most people in Horsham don't even know the way to Arapiles.
Plenty of undersupervised school groups and the usual bunch of climbing misfits camped nearby.

Rumour has it that the top of Arapiles is quite a well known spot for rooties when one first gets their license.

There are plenty of dodgy (non-climbing) locals. I've seen the results of what they did to the phone box one night. Tied a chain around it - and tore it off the foundations with a 4WD. They also used to do laps of the campsite in convoy at 3am yelling out original comments such as 'go home ya stinkn mountain goats!'.

I wouldn't be saying that one either.
I think it's most likely non-climbers from the area but I wouldn't think it's a sure thing. I can still remember climbers dropping faeces into a hole that workmen were digging and thinking that was a pretty smart thing to do. As I said, no group has a monopoly on idiocy.
edit : and, yes, schoolkids are also high on the suspect list, just behind local hoons.

It could have been Wendy. The number of poo-piles has plummeted of late.... perhaps the perpetrator was hoping to increase their numbers!

But seriously, this is f****d. I'd like to do something to show Parks that 99.99% of climbers aren't vandals. I don't know what though. Maybe write them a letter expressing disappointment in what's happened? Some volunteering?

Ah c'mon, do you really think it was proper climbers who did that? It's just some kids, who were either brought out there and were bored shitless, or drove out looking to cause a bit of trouble.

On the off chance that the parks people somehow think its climbers who did it, then they're retards, so fuch 'em. Running around trying to find ways to placate the authorities is pretty lame.

You can't stop this sort of thing from happening every now and then, better not to stress so much.
